Summary
This position is currently based in Montesano; however, it may be relocated to Elma or Cosmopolis in accordance with seniority-based workstation bidding.
JOB SUMMARY
This position maintains, diagnoses, upfits, makes major- minor mechanical, and electronic repairs to all types of vehicles and equipment in both shop and field. This can include welding and fabrication.
Employees in this position may be required to perform portions or all of the duties normally falling under positions within or below this classification depending on current workload and staffing requirements. Overtime exists and offered per collective bargaining agreement. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Maintain, inspect, diagnose, upfit, and repair of equipment, including but not limited to automobiles, construction equipment, on and off highway trucks, and materials handling equipment in a shop and field environment.
• Weld and fabricate using gas or electric welding equipment.
• Operates such shop equipment as grinders, boring bars, vehicle lifts, vacuum gauges, pressure gauges, voltage and regulator tester, wheel balancer, tire changer, drill press, pullers, lathes, jacks, air tools, scopes, scan tools- software and hardware, A/C Refrigerant machines, timing light, various hand tools, and other equipment used in automotive repairs.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Makes mechanical, electrical, wiring, air conditioning, cosmetic, improvement fabrication repairs, and upfitting to vehicles, equipment, , and other county owned operations.
• Maintains shop records.
• Road tests vehicles for reported problems and after repair work.
• Document work on electronic repair order systems with clear and concise notes.
• Work with Excel and Word documents.
• Monitor and maintain fueling systems including pumps, hoses, and electronic monitoring systems.
• Performs other related work as required by skillset and department needs.
• Works with customers to answer questions and schedule repairs. Work with vendors for troubleshooting, repairing, and warranty issues. Order parts needed for repairs and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to work in a safe, efficient, and cooperative manner.
• Ability to use software and computer programs needed for maintenance reports and records.
• Ability to work independently and organize workload.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Three (3) years of experience as an Equipment Mechanic I or five (5) years of journey level experience as a mechanic repairing heavy-duty highway equipment or high level automotive repair experience.
• A valid Washington State Driver’s license with a CDL Class A manual transmission endorsed or ability to obtain within 1 year of hiring and acceptable driving record . Opportunity for employer paid training.
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and Defensive Driving certifications.
• Ability to obtain a Washington Class A/B UST Operator Training certificate[JK1].
• ASE Certifications Preferred.
• Must have your own complete set of hand tools (list attached).
The County requires a physical examination, hearing examination, and ******* and drug test. Any offer of employment is contingent upon those results.
[JK1]All mechanics have and have had this hour log training since before my time. All have a current certificate currently.
