Qualifications

Proficient operational experience in standard and complex mechanical equipment and systems
Proficient knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures within assigned work area
Demonstrated ability to train on and certify in one or more primary duty stations, test systems, or other facility equipment in assigned work area
Typically requires a HS Diploma or its equivalent
Intermediate level of proficiency in metal fabrication and welding
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications on a standard PC
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
Coordinating eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment
Standing
Seeing and hearing with or without correction
Climbing and maintaining ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc
Lifting up to 25 pounds from ground level, waist level and overhead
Carrying up to 25 pounds for 20 yards
Requires frequent:
Bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting, and crawling from 1 to 30 minutes at a time
Following set procedures and standards
Applying basic mathematical skills
Planning work and selecting proper tools
Comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures and objects
Picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawings or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked
Following oral and written directions, plans and blueprints
Ability to recognize and report safety hazards
Exposure to uneven ground levels, high or low elevations, confined areas, various noise levels caused by power tools, machinery, equipment, etc., extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical
Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements
Must be able to work in a team atmosphere
Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation

Responsibilities
Perform skilled work in the development, fabrication, calibration, setup, operation and maintenance of laboratory fixtures, equipment, and facilities
Fabricate, modify, and assemble various complex hardware and systems from engineer drawings, sketches, or verbal and written instructions
Build and operate complex mechanical systems and equipment within the functional scope of assigned group/section including, but not limited to, pressure (liquid/vapor/gas), vacuum, cryogenic, hydraulic, pneumatic, vibration, and acoustic test equipment and systems
Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and work instructions in order to carry out assignments
Work directly with engineering personnel and/or higher-level technicians on the design, fabrication, installation, and operation of components and special systems
Assist in preparation of test procedures, test preparation sheets, discrepancy report disposition, unscheduled maintenance order reports, operational servicing reports, breadboard or developmental equipment sketches, and test setup or test article jig designs
Operate forklift and man-lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required
Work at elevated locations using systems/equipment such as ladders, man-lifts, scaffolding other work platforms
Operate appropriate shop mechanical equipment, systems, and tools in the performance of work duties
Cut, flare, thread, and bend tubing and pipe in the assembly of both high- and low-pressure liquid, vapor, and gas systems
Clean hardware and components to the appropriate level prior to, during, and after assembly using established procedures and specifications
Perform testing and leak checking of vacuum and pressure systems and hardware
Operate mechanical systems through a data and controls computer interface as applicable
Maintain equipment as necessary, including preventive maintenance and repairs or replacement of parts
Test, calibrate, adjust, repair, and set up test or research oriented equipment or experiments
Execute all work duties in a skilled, safe, and technically proficient manner
Execute all assigned tasks with technical guidance and/or supervision from higher level technicians, engineers, or supervisor
Wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing during performance of work duties, to include safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, gloves, masks, respirators, coveralls, harnesses, etc
Identify and correct potential hazards and/or unsafe acts/conditions at the work site
Notify Supervisor and Management of any hazards in the workplace and advise on potential corrective actions
Maintain work area in a neat, orderly, and safe condition
May be assisted by less experienced technicians in the performance of work duties
Work shifts assigned to duty stations as a certified test system operator or trainee under guidance/supervision of a certified technician or competent engineer
Perform related duties as required

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Systems Technician II to join our team!
This is a CBA position.
The Mechanical Systems Technician II will:
• Perform skilled work in the development, fabrication, calibration, setup, operation and maintenance of laboratory fixtures, equipment, and facilities.

Standard office equipment (computer/printer/copier/telephone), vacuum pumps, helium leak detector, passenger van, forklift, man-lift, tubing flare machine, pipe threading machine, mill, lathe, drill press, band saw (vertical & horizontal), grinder, sander, shear, sheet metal brake, welder (gas & arc), plasma cutter, hand-held power tools, basic and complex mechanics hand tools.
Attendance:
