Bio-Test is ISO 1518+ Plus™ accredited through the Institute for Quality Management in Health Care (IQMH) and offers customized occupational health programs, including workforce specimen collection, radiology, and ultrasound services, as well as ECGs.
About the Role:
The Medical Laboratory Technologist (Microbiology), is responsible for microbiology laboratory-based tasks, which includes sample preparation, testing, measuring, recording, and analyzing results in human biological clinical sciences. Operating as part of a dynamic scientific team, the Medical Laboratory Technologist provides all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. The successful candidate will be a quality oriented, organized individual offering creative and innovative solutions that positively contribute to a supportive and collaborative work environment. The Medical Laboratory Technologist carries out fundamental tests which play an important role in the provision of clinical care for all patients.
What you will be doing to make an impact:
Perform laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations
Record and report data from all analyses and tests in the prescribed time and form and maintain statistical records in accordance with laboratory procedures
Carry out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses
Prepare specimens and samples
Construct, maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment (ex. centrifuges, MALDI-TOV and other analyzing equipment)
Record and process patient data
Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced
Record and interpret results to present to key stakeholders
Keep up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability
Demonstrate practical scientific procedures
Observation of strict safety procedures and safety checks
Write reports, summaries, and protocols regarding experiment
Perform limited troubleshooting and calibration of instruments and laboratory equipment
Responsible for lab cleaning, sample disposal, monthly inventory check, safety duties etc.
Complete other duties as necessary
What you will bring to the role:
Bachelor’s degree in science, diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, or related discipline
Current registration in good standing with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
Working experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)
Understanding of patient process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of medical care
Working knowledge of laboratory techniques, terminology, equipment, and materials
High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
Mathematical proficiency for use in computation of test results and analyses
Application of data processing and analytics
Must be knowledgeable in health & safety and environmental standards
Must possess a strong understanding of WHMIS and MSDS
Participation in training and development of lab personnel
Experience working with MS Office365 suite
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
