About Brucejack
Our Brucejack Gold Mine, a high-grade underground mine in beautiful northern British Columbia, is located approximately 65 kilometres north of Stewart. Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. We work closely with local First Nations communities including the Nisga’a, Tahltan, Gitanyow, and Gitxsan, to build respectful partnerships and celebrate our shared community.

Your Impact

As a Mountain Safety Technician 1 (Fixed Term), you’ll play a crucial role in keeping our people safe in high-risk mountain environments. Your leadership in avalanche risk management and commitment to safety protocols help ensure our roadways remain open and our teams return home safely.

As Part of Our Team, You Will

Lead daily avalanche forecasting and control operations, including explosive deployment and terrain risk assessments
Mentor team members and model best practices in safe travel, communication, and emergency preparedness
Collect, analyze, and input snow, weather, and avalanche data to support real-time decision-making
Maintain avalanche equipment, signage, and ensure daily advisories are accurate and distributed on schedule
Conduct regular field patrols and site-specific avalanche assessments to identify and mitigate hazards
Facilitate Emergency Response Team training and remain rescue-ready for mountain emergencies
Collaborate with supervisors, departments, and external partners to ensure worker safety in complex alpine environments
Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role

To thrive in this position, you'll need a strong mix of certifications, technical experience, and leadership skills:

Required:
Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) Operations Level 2 Certification
10+ years as an avalanche technician
OFA Level 3 or 80-hour advanced first aid certification
WSBC Blasting Certification for avalanche control
CAA Avalanche Professional Membership
BC Ministry of Mines Avalanche Blasting Ticket
Minimum ICS 100
Valid driver’s license
Strong mountain travel, physical fitness, and skiing ability
Proven communication and leadership in team settings
Preferred:
Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) certification
Rope rescue or rope access (SPRAT/IRATA) background
GIS, snowcat, or off-trail snowmobile experience
Your Work Environment

Location: Brucejack Mine, fly-in/fly-out access
Rotation: 2 weeks on (13 x 12-hour shifts), 2 travel days, 13 days off
Shifts: Both day and night work required
Conditions: Remote, alpine, high-risk terrain in extreme weather
Support: Private accommodations, on-site amenities, and a safety-first culture
Contract Type: This is a fixed-term position, tentatively scheduled to end in October 2025. This role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our operations during a key project period!
