Maintenance Engineer



Job Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving the performance of automated machinery, ensuring the smooth operation of mechanical and electrical systems, and minimizing downtime through effective fault-finding and repairs.

This role has come about due to internal progression, so there is scope for personal development and career progression for the right candidate.

Main Responsibilities:

Respond promptly to mechanical and electrical breakdowns on production equipment.
Diagnose and repair faults on automated machinery, including motors, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and control panels.
Perform routine maintenance and inspections to prevent unexpected equipment failures.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance machinery reliability and efficiency.
Use basic PLC knowledge for fault-finding and minor programming adjustments (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley, or similar).
Collaborate with production teams to ensure minimal disruption during maintenance activities.
Maintain and update documentation, including maintenance logs and equipment records.
Adhere to health and safety regulations and promote safe working practices across the site.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role you will need:

NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
Electrical qualifications, such as 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations or equivalent.
Proven experience working with automated machinery in a manufacturing environment.
Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills on mechanical and electrical systems.
Basic understanding of PLC systems and ability to troubleshoot.
Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and control systems.
In addition, it would be desirable if you had:

HNC/HND or degree-level qualification in Engineering or a related field.
Additional certifications, such as COMPEX, IOSH, or specific equipment training.
Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
