Overview

The Ecology Learning Center is a public charter school in Waldo County, Maine with the mission to deeply root students in Maine’s ecological and cultural landscapes, foster authentic real-world learning through mentorship and craft, and cultivate compassionate and resilient leaders prepared to engage in the challenges of today and tomorrow. The Ecology Learning Center opened September 1, 2020 and currently enrolls 100 students (grades +-12). The Center was authorized as the tenth and final charter school in Maine following a lengthy application process and operating a pilot program from 2018 to 2020.

We believe all students have the right to rigorous, relevant, and joyful learning experiences led by exceptionally talented and diverse educators and staff who promote student achievement and a sense of belonging. Our goal is to prepare students for college and careers while focusing on rural community development and environmental stewardship.

The Office & Accounting Manager will oversee all financial and HR records of the Ecology Learning Center. We are seeking a diligent, dedicated team player to manage the financial records for our small public charter school, with a passion for our mission, strong attention to detail, and meticulous organizational skills. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Executive Director (Head of School), employees, and third-parties to ensure compliance with internal controls, labor and tax laws, grant-related regulations, and Charter Commission requirements.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
• Prepare and process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and vendor disputes.
• Maintain a complete and systematic set of records of certain financial transactions of the charter school.
• Record details of financial transactions in appropriate journals and subsidiary ledgers from such sources as requisitions, payroll records, etc, and assure that they align with DOE codes
• Trace errors and records adjustment to correct changes or credits posted to incorrect amounts.
• Generate monthly and quarterly financial reports for review and approval by the board, Finance Committee and Charter Commission.
• Work with the Finance Team to provide answers to budget and reporting questions.
• Sort and deliver incoming mail, assuring bills are processed, paid, and filed for audit purposes.
• Input expenses and bills, print checks, and distribute to vendors.
• Record accounts receivable and make deposits for the school
• Oversee ++0 filing and annual financial audit.
• Other job-related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
• Maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrate a respect for the legal and human rights of students, staff and parents.
• Demonstrate loyalty, dependability, and integrity.
• Communications
• Check the school's public info email account and respond accordingly
• Manage & update website
• Manage Facebook and Instagram accounts
• Co-author newsletter blasts 1-2 times per month

Qualifications
• BA or BS preferred in related field
• At least 2 years of experience as a full charge bookkeeper preferably with a publicly-funded school or educational non-profit.
• Must be competent in use of modern technology associated with the operation of a business office including Quickbooks, Excel spreadsheets, and Google docs.
• Highly responsible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, flexible, and capable of working in varied settings with minimal supervision
• Strong work ethic and abundance of patience working with teens and their parents
• Be able to successfully pass all background, criminal record, fingerprinting, reference checks
