SUMMARY The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations. This individual will be responsible for analyzing, researching and resolving payroll issues, and addressing payroll and related tax inquiries. Additionally, this role will specialize in payroll regulatory compliance in all states where employees live.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Serve as an escalation point for complex payroll and tax issues.
• Work closely with third party payroll/HRIS vendor to ensure proper setup and maintenance to support business needs as related to payroll and payroll taxes.
• Prepare or oversee third party preparation of required tax filings and other required regulatory reporting.
• Tie-out payroll cash requirements, check registers, and tax reporting.
• Write payroll related journal entries.
• Prepare IRS related forms for submission.
• Audit internal payroll processes for efficiency and accuracy.
• Fulfill all requests for reports related to federal and state filings required for ongoing projects.
• Work closely with Human Resources, Finance, Legal and external accounting firm to ensure alignment with legal regulations and business needs.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to payroll and payroll taxes.
• Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, and accounting standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate’s degree in accounting or business or 5+ years of experience working with payroll and payroll taxes or a combination of education and experience that meets these requirements.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to read, write and comprehend documents and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to internal and external individuals and groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Strong math skills including percentages and ratios. Solid understanding of accounting principles. Ability to perform specific calculations for tax reporting.

COMPUTER SKILLS Proficient in Microsoft 365 with advanced Excel skills. Previous experience working with timekeeping, payroll and human resources information systems is required.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS Ability to treat sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality. Excellent organizational skills. Requires general understanding of accounting principles and practices. Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives. Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility.
