About the Role
The People and Culture Manager is responsible for a wide range of people and culture/human resources services. The People and Culture Manager plays an integral role in ensuring that employees are able to work in a healthy workplace with a focus on improving employee experiences, providing guidance with respect to personnel policy requirements, leading recruitment and retention, and supporting managers and members of the senior leadership team.
The People and Culture Manager will also work closely with members of the Finance department to support employee attendance and pay and benefits activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Executive Director,
Maintaining employee records and files.
Assisting with the management of payroll and group benefits plan.
employee performance management and behaviour improvement.
Employee recruitment and retention processes.
Onboarding new employees.
Ensuring that new employees are provided with training in accordance with provincial laws and funder requirements, for example, the Workers’ Compensation Act.
Carrying out health and safety responsibilities as the CWAVS Joint Health and Safety Committee Management Representative and Co-Chair.
Fostering a positive and inclusive working environment through communication and employee engagement activities that align with CWAVS values and strategic direction.
Collaborating with managers to identify staff training needs with respect to human resource related topics.
Promoting employee wellness and proving support for employees through the development of effective return to work plans and other supports.
Ensuring compliance with CWAVS Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Assist in the development of employment contracts.
What You Bring
Essential Qualifications:
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in human resources, preferably in a not for profit setting.
· Post Secondary Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources.
· Current certification as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources as per the requirements of Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) of BC and Yukon.
· A sound understanding of and experience working with the BC Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Workers’ Compensation Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Laws and other applicable legislation.
· Previous experience working in social services or other trauma-informed and culturally sensitive environment is preferred.
· Proven experience in promoting practices that reflect feminist principles that include the values of:
o Empowerment and representation
o Equality, equity, and collaborative decisive decision-making
o Respect for the necessary balance of transparency and confidentiality concerning employee information while ensuring compliance with provincial freedom of information and protection of privacy laws and policy.
· This position requires a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check in accordance with CWAVS policies and, where applicable, funder requirements.
· Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.
· Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Preferred Assets:
• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Social Work, Social Services) or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Experience working in a transition house setting.
