About the team:

Located in the Planning and Regulation Department, the City Development Branch is r esponsible for the management and assessment of customer development applications, including the provision of planning and building advice, development assessment and improvement, infrastructure change review, developer contributions, infrastructure compliance and planning appeals and research. The Planning Assessment Unit is responsible for the assessment of development applications (except those for major development), change applications, superseded planning requests, access easements, and volumetric subdivisions. Assessment of compliance of survey plans as part of the plan sealing process.

You will be working within a supportive and driven team whilst having the support of great line leaders.

About your new role:

As a Planner you will provide professional support in ensuring the development of the city is in accordance with current planning, environmental principles and guidelines to ensure that the general public developers, consultants, council personnel and Government agencies are fully advised of and comply with the requirements of the CorporatePlan, City Plan, relevant Acts and Council Policies.

You are responsible for contributing to a positive workplace culture.

The position works under the general direction of the Supervising Planning, with the supervision dependent on the occupant’s experience.

Please note – We have multiple Planner positions available ranging from Permanent Full time to Fixed term Full time.

Key deliverables of the position:

Create a positive workplace culture by encouraging constructive collaboration to achieve positive City outcomes.
Assess Material Change of Use (MCU) and Reconfiguring a Lot (ROL) development applications in accordance with relevant legislation and City Plan.
Prepare planning reports which demonstrate a comprehensive and logical assessment of development applications has been undertaken against the relevant legislation and the City Plan.
Provide a high level of customer service and ensure prompt responses to written and verbal requests.
Engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Provide general advice about planning matters and be able to direct customers to the appropriate source.
We're looking for people who:

Hold a Bachelor Degree of Town Planning or equivalent knowledge.
Are passionate, enthusiastic and motivated to work in a dynamic environment.
Have developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation, consultation and presentation skills.
Have the ability to research, analyse and investigate by seeking relevant facts, sourcing appropriate information and identifying workable solutions.
Are able to work independently and within a team environment and foster good relationships with other team members.
Have the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise in a planning environment.
Are able to deliver high quality service to customers (internal and external) and understand/respond to customer expectations appropriately.
Are proficient in technology and are able to adapt to new systems and processes.
