Job Description

Position Overview
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to join the Nicotine and ******** Policy Center (NCPC) at UC Merced. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to community-engaged and transdisciplinary research with a background in health, social, behavioral, and/or policy sciences.

The Scholar will work under the advisement of Drs. Durazo and Yen and will have the opportunity to coordinate research and collaborative projects with undergraduate and doctoral student research assistants to conduct coding and analyses of data.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods analyses employing multiple social scientific methods, including data collection and statistical analysis of large-scale data.
Develop and implement substance use research in tobacco prevention and control, public policy, and public health.
Coordinate research and collaborative projects with undergraduate and doctoral student research assistants.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Post-PhD in Health/Public Policy in Public Health, or other related social, behavioral, or population science field.
Strong research skills and a substantive background in areas of neighborhoods, rural environments, and social policy.
Strong methodological and data analysis skills (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods).
Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent and collaborative scientific research.
Willingness to mentor and assist undergraduate and graduate research assistants.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
Demonstrated evidence of strong contributions to scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications.
Experience conducting or collaborating on health equity and rural health research studies, particularly investigations with a community-engaged component public policy.
Additional Qualifications:

Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, STATA) for data management and analysis of health-related datasets.
Mixed methods approaches: background in integrating both quantitative surveys and qualitative data or policy analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated research competence in areas aligned with tobacco control, such as public health policy, health disparities and community health, and/or epidemiological methods or data science related to health disparities.
