Process and Laboratory Technician

Full-time – 38 hours per week.

Location: Brisbane, QLD

Salary: $80,000 p/a plus superannuation.

Alpha HPA is an ASX-listed speciality metals and materials company. You will be working as part of a low environmental impact sustainable business, committed to supporting decarbonisation technologies with their innovative refining process.

This role will be part of the research and development team and responsible for providing technical expertise to operations within the demonstration plant and Laboratory, ensuring that all safety, environmental, product quality and customer specifications are met. The person will be required to use their technical and chemical engineering knowledge to solve quality and specification problems, research new processes and assist in producing products in accordance with the customer needs, existing legislation and industry standards.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is willing to roll up their sleeves in order to get things done whilst engaging with a dynamic team of engineers, process technicians and scientists.

Key responsibilities include:

· Contributing to the development and manufacturing of ultra-high-purity alumina products, including trihydrate and nano alumina serving industries such as electronics, energy storage, and advanced materials.

· Participating in optimizing processes and ensuring the quality and purity of alumina products.

· Tracking assay results and collaborating closely with product development engineers to formulate precise product reaction calculations, which is essential in meeting design specifications and addressing factors such as Volume, capacity, and cost.

· Participating in the review of plans for new products and modifications, submitting material selection recommendations to product development engineers. This involves careful consideration of various parameters to ensure the chosen materials align with design specifications and meet the demands of the industries we serve.

· Assisting product development engineers for planning and implementing laboratory operations aimed at developing new products.

· Monitoring various aspects of the operations, including overseeing the chemical stock and product inventory levels, and implementing effective inventory controls to ensure seamless production.

· Taking part in monitoring the operation and maintenance of equipment, ensuring maximum efficiency under safe operating conditions to safeguards the operations and to contribute the longevity of our equipment, promoting sustainability and cost-effectiveness.

· Reviewing product failure data and implementing laboratory tests to identify possible causes and providing assistance to overcome any problems.

· Diagnosing malfunctions in product manufacturing processes/plants, such as jet milling, and instituting remedial action to ensure purity and output quality.

· Collaborating with the engineering team to identify pollution control problems in the plant and implement solutions to address them.

· Coordinate with the laboratory team to ensure quality control actions are carried out in preparing final products.

· Ensure that all plant and process modifications and projects comply with relevant codes and standards.

· Ensure health and safety policies, procedures and processes are followed and adhered to.

Qualifications and Experience:

· Relevant Tertiary Qualifications – Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering.

· 3+ years experience in a similar role.

· Understanding/ experience in solvent extraction, milling and kiln operation.

· Intermediate Laboratory Skills including experience in XRD.

· Self-motivated, highly pro-active and resilient attitude.

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships and communicate with other technical and operational staff.
