The Production Coordinator & Garment Technician will be responsible for overseeing the production process from design through to final manufacturing, ensuring garments meet the brand's quality standards. This role requires fluency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin) to communicate effectively with overseas suppliers and manufacturers. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in garment construction and production workflows, with the ability to manage the entire production lifecycle. The role also requires technical expertise in creating tech packs and troubleshooting garment issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Coordination
Manage the production calendar and ensure timely delivery from initial design to final product.
Liaise between design teams, pattern makers, and manufacturers, ensuring clear communication of technical specifications in both English and Chinese (Mandarin).
Oversee all production stages, including material sourcing, sample approval, and bulk production timelines.
Ensure accurate and timely communication with Chinese (Mandarin)-speaking manufacturers, ensuring the production process adheres to the brand’s quality standards.
Collaborate with suppliers to source fabrics, trims, and other materials, ensuring they meet design and quality requirements.
Monitor production schedules and update teams on any potential delays or challenges, providing solutions as needed.
Garment Technical Support
Create and maintain detailed tech packs, including measurements, construction techniques, and materials specifications.
Attend fittings and provide fit comments, ensuring all feedback is communicated accurately to manufacturers.
Troubleshoot garment construction issues, ensuring designs are executed to specification.
Work closely with the design team to finalize details on garment construction, including seams, trims, and fabric handling.
Provide technical support to manufacturers throughout the production process, ensuring consistency in quality.
Quality Control
Conduct quality inspections at various stages of production to ensure garments meet brand standards for fit, construction, and finishing.
Address any quality issues during production and work with suppliers to implement corrective actions.
Ensure bulk production aligns with approved samples, conducting checks on fabric, trims, and workmanship.
Vendor & Supplier Management
Build and maintain relationships with manufacturers, mills, and suppliers, particularly in Mandarin speaking regions.
Negotiate prices, production timelines, and terms with suppliers while ensuring adherence to budgets and quality.
Coordinate approvals for lab dips, trims, print samples, and bulk fabric, ensuring all production materials meet required standards.
Track production orders and communicate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and garments.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with design, development, and logistics teams to ensure seamless coordination between design intent and production execution.
Provide production updates regularly to the team and communicate any delays or issues to ensure transparency.
Collaborate with the design team to transition collections from development to production, ensuring accurate documentation and communication with suppliers.
Skills & Qualifications:
Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin): Ability to communicate effectively with Chinese-speaking manufacturers and suppliers.
Garment construction expertise: Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, and production techniques.
Production experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a garment production or technical role.
Technical proficiency: Experience in creating tech packs, fit comments, and managing garment fittings.
Fabric and trim knowledge: Strong knowledge of fabrics, trims, and materials used in garment production.
Attention to detail: Ability to maintain high standards of quality control throughout the production process.
Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese, with the ability to manage cross-cultural relationships.
Project management: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Work Environment:
Office-based with regular communication with overseas manufacturers and suppliers.
Some travel may be required to visit factories and suppliers, particularly in China.
