Mo te tunga | About the role

We currently have an opportunity for a committed individual to undertake the role of Programme Facilitator in a full-time, permanent role working within the Otago and Southland Region. This position is based in Invercargill and at times travel will be required to meet operational needs.

Our Programme Facilitators work with the people within our prisons and in the community to support them to understand and address the causes of their offending and assist them to create crime-free futures. Programme Facilitators do this through delivering a range of clinically designed therapeutic programmes, either individually or with a co-facilitator.

Please note, this specific role will not be based in a Special Treatment Unit although it is mentioned in the job description.


We will be holding face-to-face assessments for this role on the 4th, 5th and 6th of August in Invercargill. All shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend in person.

We are looking for people who can actively listen and are able to help people serving sentences gain insight into their harmful behaviours. To undertake this role, you will need to be comfortable walking alongside people on their journey while consistently reflecting on your own practice.

Life experience and values alignment is important to us. In addition to this, we are looking for people who:

Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Have strong written communication skills, including report writing ability.
Are open to regular constructive feedback and practice review and the confidence/maturity to grow and develop from this.
Can demonstrate cultural understanding including working under a tikanga Maori framework (or a willingness to learn).
Have resilience and flexibility - no two days will be the same.
Can demonstrate self-insight and the ability to maintain a good balance between work and personal life.
Have the ability to deescalate difficult situations or resolve conflict.
Have experience in delivering and facilitating therapeutic interventions and/or hold a relevant tertiary education in a related field (desirable, but not essential).
You will need a Full New Zealand Driver's Licence and a legal right to work in New Zealand, without restriction, for a minimum of 24 months.

The starting salary for this role is $69, 120 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role. Once in the role, there are opportunities to increase your salary up to $ 87, 701 over time.
