Job description
Ascendo Resources is partnered with a prominent real estate company in Chicago and is seeking a Sr. Development Accountant to join their development accounting team.
The Senior Development Accountant manages all project-related accounting activities, including mentoring junior staff, general accounting tasks, internal reporting, ledger reconciliation, and accounts analysis. The role involves collaboration with internal teams and external contacts to produce high-quality reports for consolidated reporting, financial analysis, and forecasting. The position reports to the Accounting Manager.
Responsibilities:
• Review and prepare payment applications from both the general contractor (G702/703) and owner perspectives.
• Manage Textura processing for contracts, designers, and vendors associated with assigned projects.
• Support e-Builder functionalities and reconcile project costs with the general ledger on a monthly basis.
• Ensure prompt and precise data entry for invoice applications, change orders, and expenses.
• Oversee fund disbursements through title companies.
• Prepare and analyze the general ledger, financial statements, and relevant journal entries in line with GAAP.
• Review and generate monthly work papers and reports for assigned projects.
• Assist in consolidating financial results for owners and prepare profitability analyses.
• Assess financial and operational activities, suggesting enhancements in efficiency and internal controls.
• Engage in business process and technology integration initiatives and participate in annual audits.
• Work with business teams and senior management on operational reporting metrics.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
• Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate development and general contracting.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Strong professional judgment, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently or in a team.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and present solutions.
• Ability to identify issues and communicate effectively with management.
• Knowledge of property management software such as JD Edwards, Textura, eBuilder, HFM, or Hubble is a plus.
