As part of the North East Behavioural Supports Ontario (NE BSO) Team, The Psychogeriatric Resource
Consultant (PRC) for the Algoma hub will partner to lead an integrated system of care through capacity
enhancement, network engagement, and specialized clinical consultation. The PRC will embrace BSO’s
knowledge-to-practice framework, supporting staff in Long-term Care Homes (LTCHs), community and acute
care settings that care for older adults with or at risk of responsive behaviours who are affected by a
neurocognitive, mental health, substance use and/or other neurological conditions. As an instrumental change
champion, the PRC will play an important role in progressive quality improvement initiatives.
Reporting directly to the NE BSO Regional Coordinator and Manager, the PRC will embody compassionate
person-family focused values aligned with best practice principles and frameworks and in accordance with their
respective clinical college. This role necessitates travel throughout the Algoma district and beyond at times.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a recognized health care profession e.g. Nursing, Social Work,
Occupational Therapy, Psychotherapy, etc. required; Master’s degree candidates given priority
consideration
Additional relevant Geriatric Mental Health Certifications considered a strong asset
Certifications (Coach Certification preferred) in P.I.E.C.E.S., U-FIRST, GPA, Dementability, and BSO
Foundations eligible to obtain these certifications) required
Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate required (training delivered by Health Centre upon
hire)
Demonstrated experience and clinical expertise in BSO core competencies specific to personhood,
dementia, delirium, mental health, substance use and other neurological conditions to facilitate
effective knowledge-to-practice required
Effective application of facilitation, coaching, team mentorship and change management skills required
Proven experience in the provision of best practice consultation and education across diverse healthcare
sectors including demonstrated application of the best practice principles of adult learning required
Demonstrated ability to positively represent and advocate on behalf of BSO in professional and public
forums required
Advance working knowledge of emerging & best practices in psychopathology, psychopharmacology,
psychotherapy and non-pharmacological techniques to prevent and respond and mitigate expressed
behaviours and associated risks required
Skills/Abilities:
Flexibility and adaptability to meet competing needs within fast-paced work environments while
working both independently and as part of an inter-professional care team required
In collaboration with the NE BSO Central Coordinating Office, successfully engage and coordinate
specialized consultations with Geriatric Psychiatrists, Care of the Elderly Physicians, Nurse
Practitioners and other clinical care partners required
Demonstrated applied research skills and ability to support the development and spread of quality
improvement practices and standard protocols required
Valid driver’s license with clean diver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle to accommodate travel
required
Proficient advanced computer and technological application skills, including significant experience in
Microsoft Office (2013+), webinar software, OTN, and fundamental graphic design required
Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
Criminal Reference Check including the Vulnerable Sector Check recent within six (6) months is a
requirement
