General Manager (GM) will lead and manage purchasing operations in our Purchase Department for the Marble Division. S/he will be responsible for mapping the market, developing and executing purchase strategies, negotiating with vendors, managing day-to-day purchase activities, and ensure efficient purchase processes while optimizing costs and maintaining high-quality standards. S/he will collaborate with internal stakeholders, propose system improvements, and focus on effective inventory management, all while enhancing vendor relationships, driving overall operational excellence at internationally competitive purchase cost. Experience in the marble industry is required to effectively handle industry-specific purchase needs.
Map the Marble Market
Map the European, West Asia markets for sourcing marble blocks.
Focus on product quality & specifications.
Develop local vendors for helping us for marking & sourcing.
Purchase Strategy & Cost Optimization:
Develop and implement purchase strategies to optimize costs, enhance supply chain efficiency, and ensure timely, quality material delivery.
Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to secure favourable pricing, payment terms, and mutually beneficial agreements.
Continuously evaluate and improve purchase practices, identifying cost-saving opportunities and process enhancements.
Ensure the purchase process is aligned with company goals and objectives.
Vendor & Supplier Management:
Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on reliability, cost-effectiveness, quality, and sustainability standards.
Manage supplier relationships, conduct performance evaluations, resolve issues, and foster long-term partnerships.
Propose and implement improvements to the purchasing system to strengthen vendor relationships and lower costs.
Source and negotiate with potential suppliers, assessing their capabilities and suitability based on predefined criteria.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management:
Collaborate with inventory control and sales teams to develop metrics for tracking inventory needs and maintain stock levels throughout the year.
Monitor inventory levels, analyse demand patterns, and implement strategies to manage stock efficiently, reducing carrying costs and avoiding shortages or excesses.
Take the lead in managing obsolete and slow-moving stock to offset losses and optimize inventory turnover.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
Implement purchase systems and tools to streamline processes, improving overall efficiency.
Stay updated on regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to sourcing and purchase activities.
Continuously identify opportunities for improvements within the purchase system, enhancing both operational efficiency and cost management.
Team Leadership & Performance Management:
Manage day-to-day activities of the purchase department, ensuring that all team members meet performance standards.
Assist in developing more effective invoicing and collection processes to ensure smooth financial operations.
Lead, mentor, and develop the purchase team, ensuring skill development and high team performance.
Reporting & Stakeholder Collaboration:
Prepare and present purchase activity reports, MIS, including performance metrics, cost savings, and supplier evaluations, to senior management.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align purchase activities with organizational goals and ensure consistent supply chain performance.
Sustainable Sourcing Practices:
Implement sustainable and responsible sourcing practices, supporting local suppliers and promoting ethical sourcing.
Ensure adherence to sustainability standards and ethical purchase guidelines throughout the supply chain.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (required).
Master’s degree in a relevant field and/or certifications in purchase (e.g., APICS or similar) are a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in purchasing management.
Proven experience in developing and implementing purchase strategies, managing suppliers, and optimizing inventory.
Familiarity with SAP or similar purchase software is required.
Demonstrable experience in sourcing materials and negotiating contracts with vendors.
Knowledge of local, national and international purchase regulations and best practices.
Skills & Competencies:
High on ethical values.
Should be from MNC background having experience of US, European markets and operating practices.
Strong knowledge of supply chain management, purchase strategies, and best practices.
Expertise in inventory management, cost control, and budgeting.
Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Analytical and data-driven approach to decision-making.
Ability to lead and mentor a team, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
Knowledge of sustainable and socially responsible purchase practices.
Proficiency in using purchase software and tools to enhance operational efficiency.
