Responsibilities:
Float Registered Nurse (RN) Opportunity 7am-7pm or 7 pm-7am
Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC) is a 100-bed freestanding psychiatric hospital located near the beautiful resort area of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a short 10-minute drive to the ocean front. VBPC offers acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for adults 18 years and older. The hospital is accessible 24 hours a day for admissions, and includes mental health assessments and an excellent referral network. Treatment programs and specialty services at VBPC include substance abuse, dual diagnosis and partial hospitalization.

Position Summary: Float pool is designed to address turnover, vacancies, and call-ins facilitating safe staffing patterns. Provides assessment, nursing care and evaluation of nursing care. Ensures consistent use of the nursing process in providing quality care. Interacts with patients, patient families, clinical team, and community resources establishing relationships and providing positive customer service. Provides evidence-based care. Coordinates and delegates direct care, planning, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions for designated shift. Ensures consistent use of psychiatric nursing process in providing quality care.
Working Conditions: Hospital setting. May include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Some risk involved in the event of aggressive/out-of-control patient. Ability to communicate effectively; ability to meet travel requirements; ability to effectively utilize communication equipment; physical agility to manage patients (ambulatory, non-ambulatory and physically aggressive); repetitive bending, stooping, and/or lifting. Near visual acuity is necessary for evaluating patients and reading charts. Eye/hand coordination and finger dexterity are essential for manual charting. Talking and hearing are necessary for conversing with and assessing patients. Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time.
Position details:
Float Pool RNs are the first to be put on call or called off for low census.
Float Pool RNs are the first to be asked to float during a shift for emergent needs.
Float Pool RNs will work required every other weekend.
Float Pool RNs will be assigned to units upon arrival for shift.
Float Pool RNs are able to provide care across the hospital, in each nursing department and across discipline.
Float pool evaluations will be completed in partnership with CNO and NCMs.
Qualifications:
Requires graduation from an accredited nursing program with licensure and registration by the Virginia Board of Nurse Examiners as a Registered Nurse
Must possess knowledge of basic psychiatric nursing procedures working with a general population including adults and chemically dependent individuals.
Shift can vary: 7am-7pm or 7 pm-7am
