Full Job Description
Role Overview:
Midlevel finance operations role in Smith & Nephew Finance responsible for the delivery of effective and efficient finance transactional processes, tax compliances and controls in line with the Group Finance Manual, Minimum Acceptable Practices (MAPs) and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
Works in conjunction with designated Finance Operations and SOASIA controllership to ensure robust direct and indirect tax compliances. Delivers the service independently by directly interacting with tax team, controllers, accountants and tax consultants.
Works closely with tax consultants, other finance professionals and tax accountants, to standardize processes, eliminate unnecessary work, automate tasks, remove exceptions and simplify activities to deliver agreed efficiency and improve performance. Maintain and strengthen internal and external relationships, regulatory requirements, etc.
Keep updated with changes in tax regulations and laws. Excellent time management skills to meet tight deadlines. The responsibility also includes organizing and maintaining records of tax compliances, tax payments and tax assessments (Direct Tax and Indirect Tax) including suggesting tax strategies that stay in sync with laws and promote our company's well being.
Responsibilities:
Both Direct and Indirect tax -
Accurately prepare tax calculations and tax payment liabilities
Prepare tax provisions schedules, payments, reports and maintain the tax records
Estimate tax calculations and track tax returns
Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns
Organize and update company's tax database
Engage in company's tax strategies that aligns with the business
Maintain the transfer pricing database and assist in TP compliances
Prepare necessary paperwork for tax assessments, tax audits, tax returns and tax payments
Collaborate with finance accountants for financial data for tax preparations
Liaise with internal as well as external auditors for tax matters
Coordinate with Regional and Global tax team for company's tax matters
Prepare forecast and estimates for tax for senior managers / finance leaders
Advice management about the impact of tax liabilities and new tax laws / provisions
Keep up-to-date with tax changes and industry trends by participating in educational opportunities, participating in professional organizations, keeping up with professional networks and reading professional publications
Finalization of Accounts including preparation of Balance sheet, Profit & Loss, Cash flow and Schedules to Financial statements
FEMA compliances
Import and Export compliances and filings with the Authorised Dealer and reconciling the EDPMS and IDPMS data.
Merchant trade and Export related document
Treasury and Banking
Location: Pune
Education: Qualified Accountant (CA/ACCA/CMA/CPA) with taxation
Licenses/ Certifications: ACA, CMA, CPA, ACCA
Experience / Competencies:
Minimum 4-5 years of hands on experience with extensive knowledge in India taxation (Direct and Indirect)
Strong working experience with Indian Income Tax, GST (CGST / IGST)
Must have handled tax assessments and tax audits knowing the preparatory work
Must have dealt with tax consultants, internal and external auditors
Worked in the ERP environment and well versed using MS Office tools (EXCEL/WORD)
Good understanding of changing tax environment in India whether in Direct or Indirect Taxation laws and rules.
Must have ability to access right data, react quickly and conclusively to tax issues, taking tough decisions where needed or escalating issues as appropriate
Excellent communication skills, drafting in English language
Strong analytical skills and detailed approach
Must have worked in a multi-national and matrix organization environment
Nice to have:
Relevant industry experience ideally in medical device or pharma
Experience in MS-Dynamics (AX), TM1, HFM
Working knowledge and application of SOX control framework
Travel Requirements: <10% 10–25% (if required)
