Tissue resident memory T cells (Trm) perform tactile immune surveillance in frontline mucosal tissues and play key roles in protection against infectious diseases and cellular transformation. The Joag lab seeks to understand how the interplay between CD8 memory T cells and neighboring cells in mucosal tissues fortifies and diversifies tissue immunity against infectious diseases in some contexts but may exacerbate tissue pathology in others. The laboratory uses cutting-edge mouse and non-human primate models and applies conventional and spectral flow-cytometry, imaging, and computational approaches to study tissue immunity.
