Job Description

We are looking for a Sales Associate to join our team in a part-time, seasonal capacity. There is a possibility for the position to extended beyond September 2026. If you are a motivated individual that has existing paint and or building knowledge we want to hear from you! Our ideal candidate has retail sales experience, general knowledge of hardware/plumbing products, a friendly and outgoing demeanor, and works well in a team environment.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service

Ensure customers are greeted within 30 seconds of entering the store or the paint department.
Determine customers’ needs by asking open-ended questions.
Assist customers in locating merchandise in store, on homehardware.ca, and process special orders.
Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their project..
Cut keys, wire, chain, etc. as needed per customer requests.
Assist customers with carrying out large or heavy items.

Department Maintenance

Update prices on merchandise, bins, displays, etc. as necessary.
Participate in regular cycle counting and assist in annual inventory counts.
Keep overstock neatly stored in the designated area and regularly check overstock quantities and refill any empty spots on the shelves.
Restock merchandise displays in the paint department.
Put out flyer and sale tags, as directed by management and remove tags when promotions end.
Maintain an awareness of all ongoing promotions and advertisements.
Maintain the paint counter on a daily basis by wiping down with the appropriate cleaner, and organizing any materials on the desk.
Regularly sweep paint aisles to keep clean of debris.
Face product on paint shelves on a daily basis, to ensure products are easy to find, labels are easy to read, and shelves look fully stocked.

Ordering & Receiving

Process special orders for non-stock or out of stock items. Record customer requests for product and follow-up when product arrives at the store.
Reorder merchandise as needed, when notified by the designated Purchaser.
Advise the designated Purchaser of shortages, damaged goods, back-orders, etc.
Suggest new products, merchandise lines, services, and/or cost containment measures to management.
Help unload incoming trucks when necessary.
Put out newly received stock, following the “first in, first out” principle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School graduation or equivalent.
Fluent English is required.
Minimum of 2 years experience dealing directly with customers.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Friendly and helpful attitude toward customers.
A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction.
Excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational ability, high attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
Good mathematical skills.
Creative abilities for making attractive in-store displays considered an asset.
Ability to learn quickly and retain a large amount of product-specific knowledge.
Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
Willingness to learn and continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store.
Must be able to climb a ladder to restock product.
Must be able and comfortable to stand for an extended period of time.

SCHEDULING: This is a part-time, seasonal position with 8-hour shifts on Friday and Saturday, with additional days as needed/desired. During our busy spring/summer season, up to 32hrs/week are available in this role.

Pay: From $1+.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
