Mission
The DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server database, ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modelling in support of multiple development teams. Additionally, the candidate will also perform DevOps operations to support the overall health, performance, and capacity of one or more of our Internet-facing services.
Core Responsibilities
1. Database administration – Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems
2. Servers & services automation and engineering tooling.
3. Build standard engineering practices of auto-scale, CI/CD, release engineering
4. Co-ordinate with external data centers and AWS in the event of provisioning, outages or maintenance.
5. Jenkins experience is mandatory. SonarQube, GitLab experience desirable.
6. Assist in the roll out and deployment of new product features and installations, to facilitate rapid iteration and constant growth.
7. Be aware of current CVEs, potential attack vectors, and vulnerabilities, and apply patches as soon as possible.
8. Handle incident responses, troubleshooting and fixes for various products/services.
+. Work closely with development teams to ensure that platforms are designed with scale, operability, and performance in mind.
10. Troubleshooting and resolving root cause issues in our dev, test and production internal and cloud environments.
11. Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
12. Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
13. Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities.
Server Database Management
· Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances databases and SQL Server Reporting services.
· Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring high availability and scalability.
· Conduct regular backups, perform data recovery, and implement disaster recovery plans.
· Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities.
· Implement and maintain database security, access controls, and data encryption mechanisms.
Performance Optimization And Capacity Planning
· Identify and address performance bottlenecks in SQL Server databases by analyzing query execution plans, index strategies, and server configurations.
· Conduct capacity planning exercises to estimate resource requirements and ensure optimal database performance and scalability.
· Implement database tuning techniques, including index optimization, query optimization, and data partitioning strategies.
Skills and Qualifications
· 4+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience required
· excellent hand-on experience with SQL Server setup and administration.
· Good background in Windows administration.
· Exposure on AWS environments with shell scripting knowledge would be preferred. Good background in AWS administration.
· Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
· Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
· Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
· Experience with using T-sql and at least one scripting language such as Python, Bash, JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.
· Knowledge of AWS Services including: S3, VPC, Route 53, EC2, Load Balancing, CloudWatch
· Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory
· Excellent written and verbal communication
· Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality
· Ability to organize and plan work independently
· Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
· Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams
· Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related technical discipline
