Kōrero mō te Tūranga About the Role

You’ll enjoy working as part of a highly skilled technical field team, using your initiative and drive to help achieve team outcomes. You’ll maintain and develop strong relationships with other field teams and scientists to align our work and contribute to the objectives of our Science Strategy.

Our surface water quantity field team runs a network of rainfall sites and water level monitoring stations in our rivers and lakes across the Canterbury region.  The data our team collects helps support our science team and informs decision making about the management of Canterbury’s surface water resources.

Mōu │ About You

Ideally, you’ll have a technical qualification like a trade cert or similar level with experience or aptitude for diagnosing and resolving technical problems.  You’ll be able to use a variety of methods and equipment to obtain data relating to the water quantity in our area. This will include measuring of streams and rivers, and surveying and gathering rainfall information. You’ll be required to assist with our maintenance programmes, assist with site upgrades, and participate in high-flow events.

You’ll be trained in all aspects of Hydrology to assist in maintaining the national environmental monitoring standards.

Experience in, or knowledge of Hydrology would be an advantage. 4WD and motorbike experience would also be a plus. Any experience in planning fieldwork, overseeing environmental data programmes, or working within a field team would be an advantage.

This position will require overnight stays and some work outside of normal hours. Confidence driving long distances, working alone and around water, and in a variety of weather conditions is essential.
