Bay Venues …. Haven’t heard of us? Not to worry; I bet you have heard of some of the venues we own or operate – the iconic Mount Hot Pools, Baywave, or Mercury Baypark to name a few. As the kaitiaki of over 20 facilities in Tauranga Moana, we proudly offer a range of activities and experiences intended to put a smile on the dial of our community.
Here at Bay Venues, we are all about ensuring we create memorable moments - and we do so intentionally through connection and fun with each other and our community. Our values of Manaakitanga (Service), Whakawhanaungatanga (Relationships), Kaitiakitanga (Caring) and He Toi Tangata (Excellence) are lived on the daily as we strive to enhance the wellbeing of the people we serve. It’s no small feat, but we know that when we facilitate connections and collaborate with others, great things will happen!
Bay Venues is on a security transformation journey and we're looking for a change maker. Is that you?
The Security Operations Lead is a hands-on role with a strong focus on system delivery and operational execution. You’ll support the implementation of physical security systems, policies, and procedures that enhance safety across our network of venues. Working closely with the Head of Health, Safety and Security and our operational teams, you’ll champion a consistent and proactive, people-focused approach to physical security at Bay Venues.
With a capital programme already underway and strong executive backing, this is a real opportunity to make an impact and help shape the future of how security is delivered across the entire Bay Venues network. You’ll be the operational lead for key technologies including CCTV, access control, alarms, and lone worker devices, ensuring they run smoothly and support our broader strategic goals.
You’ll be central to Bay Venues’ transformation, from leading the rollout of smarter systems to strengthening a consistent and proactive security culture. As our frontline teams build their awareness and capability, you’ll be right there with them, delivering training, providing support, and building momentum for long-term change.
This full-time role is based at Mercury Baypark, but you’ll work across all of our facilities. Flexibility to attend events or respond to security issues outside of standard business hours may be required.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
Leading implementation of physical and digital security systems
Managing security service providers and contractor performance
Training operational teams and embedding a strong security culture
Supporting security planning for activities, events and day-to-day operations.
Being on-site for high-risk activities and events across the network to monitor and support security delivery
Here’s what will ensure your success:
5+ years of experience in operational or physical security roles, ideally within a multi-site environment, including oversight or management of people, systems, or contractors
Strong knowledge of security systems such as CCTV, access control, alarms, and lone worker devices
Skilled in delivering training and supporting frontline teams
Experience managing system vendors, security contractors, and service providers
Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence
It would be great if you also had:
Prior experience rolling out new security systems
Familiarity with emergency response procedures and incident management
Crowd management and event security experience
A current Certificate of Approval (COA), or the ability to obtain one
Integriti Inner Range basic training
We have put together a bunch of perks to support our culture of connection and fun. Ones that reinforce that we are part of the awesome leisure and events industry, and all the magic that comes along with that. Our benefits include:
a gym membership to our ClubFit Gyms,
access to our five aquatic facilities including BayWave and Mount Hot Pools,
subsidised speedway passes and generous discounts on our programmes, services and merchandise,
heavily subsidised coffee at our on-site cafes,
access to a range of development opportunities through our Learning & Development programme
So why not join us? We have the right purpose to fuel meaningful careers, the right attitude to support work life balance, and the right leadership to foster an amazing culture. No matter your age and stage you may be, we are an inclusive bunch all driven by our vision of creating The Best Venues for the Bay. Come on – take the punt; you won’t regret it!
