Kōrero mō te Tūranga About the Role
Our Environment Canterbury northern zone covers an area from the Waimakariri River to Kekerengu in the north. Our people work and play within this area, in the mountains and the rivers, and proactively support landowners to improve their environmental management approach across northern Canterbury.
In This Role, You Will
Be part of a committed and dedicated team of biodiversity advisors and biosecurity officers working in some of the most naturally significant areas of Canterbury.
Advocate and provide advice to staff and stakeholders regarding enhanced biodiversity outcomes
Engage and work with landowners, rūnanga, community groups, stakeholders and contractors to deliver positive biodiversity outcomes
Provide technical field capacity for the inventory, assessment and monitoring of ecological values and threats

You’ll be a natural collaborator drawing people together, listening to their issues, and building trust, whilst influencing their view on improving environmental management.
More About You
Have a tertiary qualification in a resource management, biodiversity, biosecurity, science, ecology degree or a related field
Three to five years’ experience in a role related to resource management
Experience in the assessment, protection and management of indigenous biodiversity
Able to translate research or academic knowledge of ecological principles and processes into practical application
Knowledge of catchments, waterbodies, land use practices and associated contaminant loss will add to your application
This role is a blend of office and site locations, so you’ll be confident and fit to navigate farms, hill slopes, and waterways.
You will have a passion in ensuring that mana whenua aspirations are reflected in our operational programmes.
