  • Salary: Estimated: $ 17K to 28K
  • Published on: 2025/10/04

We are a growing, project-driven business seeking a highly capable finance professional to take ownership of our complete finance function. This is a senior hands-on role — not an administrative bookkeeping position.

You will work closely with the Managing Director and project teams, playing a critical part in managing cash flow, customer billing, and monthly reporting. We expect a high standard of accuracy, authority, and professionalism — both behind the scenes and in customer-facing interactions.

Summary

We are seeking a Senior Financial Controller to join our team at Save the Sash Ltd. This pivotal role will be based in Great Britain and will involve overseeing financial operations, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and contributing to strategic financial planning. Your expertise will play a key role in driving our financial success and supporting our mission.

Key Responsibilities

Complete day-to-day bookkeeping, including bank reconciliations and ledger accuracy
Input and categorisation of purchase invoices and cost allocations to projects
Creation of sales invoices for staged and full project billing
Ownership of customer accounts, including chasing payments, updating files, and ensuring timely funding
Sign off of projects for readiness to fit, based on payment status and customer comms
Direct communication with customers regarding finance matters, including payment requests and timelines
Full responsibility for management accounts, including accurate P&L preparation
Creation and control of accruals and prepayments — not just administration of templates

What We’re Looking For

This is a self-managed, senior-level role requiring clear authority, experience, and initiative.

You will need to:

Take full ownership of the finance function — not wait for direction
Communicate confidently and professionally with customers and colleagues
Present accurate figures to the MD and be able to explain them clearly
Apply accounting knowledge practically — especially for projects, journals, and monthly reporting

Essential Skills and Experience

5+ years of experience in bookkeeping and finance management
Proven experience producing accurate management accounts independently
Strong knowledge of accruals, prepayments, and project accounting
Experience in customer communication and debt control
Confident verbal communicator with the ability to explain financial matters simply
High attention to detail and ownership of financial reporting
Proficient in Sage Accounting (or similar) and excellent skills in Microsoft Excel

Desirable Experience

Background in construction, manufacturing, or project-based businesses
Familiarity with CIS, staged payments, or customer project tracking
Exposure to working with directors or business owners directly

Important: This is Not a Junior Role

This role is not suitable for someone looking to “learn on the job” or perform administration-level bookkeeping. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Natural authority, managing colleagues from day 1
Authority in advising the MD on financial matters, leading on solution and only seeking Directorship authorization.
Strong initiative and problem-solving
Confidence in managing customers over the phone
