The Senior Business Systems Analyst is a key role responsible for partnering with stakeholders across the University to analyse business needs, define requirements, and support the development and enhancement of business systems—particularly those related to student services and administration. The position plays a lead role in identifying opportunities for process improvements, ensuring alignment between system functionality and business objectives, and supporting change initiatives. Reporting to the Lead Business Analyst, this position delivers business analysis services both within formal projects and through consulting engagements. The Senior Business Systems Analyst is accountable for the quality of business analysis outputs, stakeholder engagement, and the successful execution of business and technical change. While the position has no direct reports, it contributes significantly to mentoring junior analysts and promoting best practices across the analysis team.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

Perform a key role in projects, working collaboratively with the project managers, vendors, and business users, including managing project scope, impact assessments, risk analysis, testing and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
Collaborate closely with developers to implement the requirements, provide necessary guidance to testers during QA process. Participate in building and executing product functional test plans, planning of user acceptance testing, and sign-off on Student and associated systems prior to release to end-users.
Perform a lead role in researching 3'd party software solutions, performing in-depth analysis to assess their suitability to meet UNSW business requirements and if required, assist in the development of Procurement Strategy, RFx and evaluation criteria.
Engage collaboratively with stakeholders across Student Services, IT, Compliance, and other departments to understand business challenges, gather requirements, and co-design optimal solutions. • Lead analysis and documentation of current and future business processes, identifying opportunities for optimisation and digital enablement.
Contribute to business case development, including defining benefits, risks, and change impacts associated with proposed solutions.
Support system-related projects from initiation through delivery, including requirements gathering, testing, vendor engagement, impact assessment, and change readiness.
Perform data analysis to inform reporting, insight generation, and evidence-based decision-making.
Assess third-party software solutions, contribute to procurement strategy, and participate in vendor evaluation.
Support system integration efforts and ensure design alignment with business needs across platforms such as CRMs and workflow automation tools.
Document and maintain key artefacts including workflows, data sharing agreements, service packs, and change control records.
Provide Level 2 functional support and expert advice on supported systems and related business processes.
Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values
Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
Ensure hazards and risks psychosocial and physical are identified and controlled for tasks, projects, and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.
Skills and Experience:

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Minimum 5 years' experience in business/system analysis roles, ideally within higher education or complex environments.
Strong understanding of business process modelling, system requirements gathering, and solution evaluation.
Proficiency with business analysis tools (e.g. BPMN, Visio) and familiarity with reporting tools such as SQL, Power BI, or Tableau.
Experience with student systems (e.g. PeopleSoft Campus Solutions) and integrations with platforms such as CRMs and workflow tools.
Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and communication skills with a track record of influencing and negotiating outcomes.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing needs, and contribute to highperforming teams.
Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies.
Commitment to continuous improvement, quality documentation, and compliance with data governance and university policies.
