Job description
A Senior Compensation Accountant will join a North American accounting team providing support for multiple business segments at a consulting firm. This role focuses on compensation-related accounting, specifically share-based compensation, and will involve close collaboration with the HR and finance teams. The Senior Compensation Accountant will play a critical role in monthly accounting close activities, compensation reporting, and policy development, while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Compensation Accounting:
Prepare journal entries for share-based compensation (SBC), including intercompany and termination-related entries.
Manage month-end closing for variable compensation expense ledgers and provide fluctuation analyses.
Reconcile share-based compensation and bonus accounts.
Assist with SBC forecasts, prepare tax reports, and support board payments.
Coordinate share issuance with third-party firms.
Policy and Process Improvement:
Review employment contracts to ensure proper accounting treatment.
Document compensation policies and procedures.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Collaboration:
Serve as a liaison between finance and HR teams.
Support external reporting efforts, prepare reports, and provide analyses on compensation data.
Other Duties:
Assist with special projects and month/quarter/year-end close processes.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
Experience: 3+ years in compensation-related accounting, reporting, and controls.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, Excel proficiency, and experience with compensation-related accounting software.
Other: Ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications: CPA.
Software: Experience with IBM Cognos TM1 or similar reporting tools.
Other Skills: Strong teamwork, customer service orientation, and experience with both domestic and international accounting (foreign currencies preferred).
