Overview of role
Location: Walthamstow
Annual salary up to £60,000 depending on experience
To provide an Electrical & Controls engineering resource to support the efficient manufacturing of quality bakery goods, in a safe manner while promoting and maintaining an atmosphere of Continuous Improvement.
This role also requires the individual to demonstrate both their management and practical hands-on skills and fulfil the role of Duty Manager in accordance with the rostered cycle.
The role holder will be involved in dealing with employees at all levels of the business and liaising with different departments as needed while complying and assisting in the creation of high standards and procedures.
Also deputizing for the site Controls Engineer.
Key Accountabilities
Ensure all engineering work is carried out in an efficient and effective manner, in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice, Health and Safety Legislation and current Company Standards.
To work across mechanical and electrical trades as qualified and authorized, as per the needs of the operation.
Support the Shift Engineers in controls & electrical fault diagnosis and breakdown repairs of process equipment, bakery manufacturing plant, packaging equipment and site services, supervising major works when required.
To be a CMMS super user and assist in the continual improvement of the site maintenance strategy to achieve ‘World Class’ asset performance.
Act as deputy to the Controls Engineer to support effective Controls & Engineering management onsite.
Support the Controls Engineer to deliver planned maintenance, modifications, installations and upgrades to plant machinery and site services.
Collaborate with the Planning & Maintenance Manager to ensure daily engineering priorities are understood and correct resource is allocated to execute in an efficient manner.
To liaise with suppliers on Electrical & Controls issues, updating documentation and drawings as required.
Proactive involvement in Project work, including the installation and commissioning of machines and equipment within authorized skill level.
Positively influence the change management process, driving engineering culture to world class performance.
Support and coach other employees (i.e. Manufacturing Technicians) in all aspects of shared or autonomous maintenance to achieve operational and personal targets.
To work with, or lead, multi-functional teams on CI initiatives using agreed techniques to improve production processes and plant design to minimize downtime and improve safety and quality performance.
To undertake training and up-skilling programs as directed by business needs and to keep abreast of technological advancements and maintain skill level. Aspiring to be the site engineering plant specialist.
Ensure in depth-handovers take place between shifts, to incl. engineering, manufacturing or stores.
Fulfill the role of Duty Manager in accordance with the rostered cycle including chairing / attendance of daily performance meetings.
Any other duties relevant to the role as required by the business.
The Right Person
Qualified inductrial electrical engineer preferrably apprentice trained in a similar industry with a good level of experience.
Good level of Controls, PLC and Automation knowledge with a desire to aspire towards being a Controls Engineer.
Ability to build good working relationships, with employees, customers and suppliers.
Good supervisory skills, with a confident, open and honest style of communicating.
A strong customer focus, always willing to go the extra mile to deliver a good service.
A quick thinker, capable of making effective decisions in a fast paced environment.
Self motivated with passion, enthusiasm, tenacity and resilience.
Strong PC, numeracy, literacy and analytical skills.
