Senior Full Stack Web Developer (Full-Time)
Remote-friendly | Core hours: 8–4 MST | $75,000–$+5,000
Who We Are
Sland Studios is a boutique web design and development studio based out of Calgary, Alberta. Since 2011, we’ve been helping businesses grow with digital experiences that are as strategic as they are stunning. We specialize in understanding our clients’ needs through thoughtful discovery, competitive analysis, and intentional design—and we deliver websites that look great, work hard, and convert.
Our stack is lean. Our team is small. And our standards are high. We don’t just build websites—we help our clients win online. If you’re looking for a place where your code, leadership, and voice all make an impact, keep reading.
About The Role
We’re hiring a Senior Full Stack Web Developer who knows how to build well and lead well. Reporting to our Operations Manager and working alongside our Frontend and Senior Fullstack Developers, you’ll play a key role in executing high-quality web builds, managing a small dev team, and helping us refine our development processes. From bringing Wordpress based websites to life, to mentoring team members and guiding development processes, you’ll be in the driver’s seat.
This role is full-time and remote-friendly, with a core working window of 8–4 MST. You’ll collaborate regularly via Slack, TeamWork, ClickUp and GoogleMeets—but we also have a cozy, collab-friendly office overlooking the Red Mile if you’re in Calgary.
What You’ll Do
Lead full-stack web development projects from kickoff to deployment
Bring WordPress websites to life using provided designs, themes, and best practices
Manage and mentor a small dev team (3–5 members, including FT/PT/contractors)
Build and integrate custom web features, APIs, data processing, and dynamic content
Deployment of web hosting environments utilizing Digital Ocean droplets
Collaborate closely with designers, PMs, and other devs to deliver intuitive user experiences and develop best practices and technical processes
Own your deadlines—you’re accountable, accurate, and not afraid to speak up early if scope shifts
Refine our internal tooling, contribute to our proprietary Wordpress plugin , and suggest smarter ways to build
Set technical direction for new projects and troubleshoot complex problems with calm confidence
Participate in QA and testing before every launch to ensure pixel-perfect, responsive delivery
Support and maintain live sites, hosting environments, and security updates post-launch
Technical Requirements:
5+ years of full-stack development experience
Strong skills in PHP, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, database architecture (MySQL), and API integrations
Extensive experience building with WordPress, themes (like Bricks), child themes, shortcodes, custom plugins, and Gutenberg blocks
Willingness to learn our proprietary Wordpress plugin inside and out, and to drive support, process, and features moving forward
Confident with HTML, CSS, and responsive front-end frameworks
Comfortable in hosting environments like DigitalOcean, cPanel, PLESK and working in command line, and configuring CloudFlare
Familiar with QA workflows, browser testing, and optimization
Understanding of SEO best practices and performance principles
Experience working off of sitemaps and wireframes and approaching user-centered problem solving, design, and development
Knowledgeable with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, XD, etc.), and ability to export assets for web from such applications.
Degree or diploma in a technical field is a bonus, but not required
Soft Skills & Fit
You’ve led a team before and bring calm, clear leadership energy
You’re organized, communicative, and transparent with timelines and expectations
You thrive working independently but love contributing to a team mission
You’re great with clients (when needed), strong in stakeholder management, and happy to explain tech without the jargon
You love refining your craft and mentoring others to do the same
You’re comfortable tracking hours and scoping tasks (we use Harvest)
You care deeply about quality—and know when “good enough” is actually good enough
This Role might not be a fit if…
You prefer working in a large org with highly specialized roles
You’re not a self-starter or need constant hand-holding
You’re not obsessed with building great digital experiences
You’re not a cat or dog person (kidding… kind of)
What you can expect
Pay: $75,000–$+5,000 CAD/year, based on experience
Remote-first work with Calgary-based office space (300, 1550 5th St SW) for hybrid collab when needed
Learning from senior developers, with time to explore and level up your backend skill set
Freedom to shape your day, own your code, and make smart decisions
Real impact on our clients’ success and our studio’s growth
A small team that values autonomy, excellence, and good vibes
Free coffee. Free beer. (Still not kidding.)
