About the team

The Police Advisory Branch provides legal services, strategic advice and representation to the Chief Commissioner of Police and, by extension, all Victoria Police personnel across the State. The branch is involved in a diverse range of matters, including but not limited to:

Police duties, powers and responsibilities;
Criminal law, criminal disclosure obligations and criminal procedure;
Statutory interpretation;
Administrative law, privacy and information sharing;
Responding to subpoenas, including making public interest immunity claims;
Intervention order applications and summary prosecutions.
Please note this role is located at Victoria Police's corporate headquarters.

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Legal Assistant to join our Police Advisory Branch as part of the legal support team that provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors. Day to day responsibilities would include:

Preparing correspondence and court documents – drafting and typing
Assisting in preparing matters for court, including liaising with clients and barristers
Amending, formatting and redacting documents
File management – maintaining orderly, up to date legal files
Preparation of large e-briefs to counsel
General administration – photocopying, printing and scanning
Skills and experience

Demonstrated experience providing legal support at a senior level
Experience supporting litigation matters is highly regarded
Confident in providing high level legal administrative assistance to more than one solicitor
Strong understanding of court systems and procedures
Self-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomously
Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to service excellence
Please note, a requirement of this role is holding a Baseline security clearance or be willing to obtain one.
