Australia exports over $16 billion worth of meat products annually to more than 100 countries. In this role, you’ll directly contribute to supporting this vital industry and Australia’s economic growth. Our Exports and Veterinary Services Division ensures Australian meat products meet global standards, helping maintain and expand market access. We regulate, inspect, and certify meat exports to guarantee compliance with Australian and international requirements.
This is where you play an important role. You’ll be key in maintaining our national meat inspection and certification services, ensuring high standards across the supply chain. Whether it’s regulating export licenses or overseeing meat processing facilities, your work will ensure Australian meat exports continue to thrive in global markets.
What You’ll Do
Master Regulatory Frameworks: You’ll become an expert in meat export regulations, applying your knowledge to ensure compliance and guide our operations.
Provide Expert Advice: Offer clear and accurate advice on legislation, policies, and technical matters, supporting the department’s regulatory responsibilities.
Analyse and Report: Dive deep into compliance data, evaluate findings, and contribute to evidence-based policy development.
Create Key Documents: Develop important briefs, ministerial correspondence, reports, and presentations that drive our mission forward.
Engage with Stakeholders: Represent our branch and the department in meetings with internal stakeholders, industry partners, and other government agencies. You’ll build and maintain productive relationships that are crucial to our success.
Collaborate and Contribute: Work closely with your team in a fast-paced, evolving environment to support our regulatory functions.
Manage Applications: Handle complex applications that are key to our regulatory activities, ensuring everything runs smoothly and on time.
Lead Administrative Efforts: Oversee administrative tasks, ensure compliance with legislative timeframes, and prepare essential instructional materials.

The following experience is highly desirable for the role:
Experience in the public service supporting policy and regulation, or in a program administration role.
An understanding or qualifications and experience related to government policy, regulation, food safety, or animal production systems.
