Senior Instructor - Public Speaking & Debate Summer 2026
Join Capitol Debate Summer Camps, a professional organization dedicated to teaching essential public speaking and debate skills. The Role
As a Senior Instructor, you will be at the heart of our classroom experience. You'll lead lessons, coach students individually, judge practice debates and competitions, and provide personalized feedback. This role is ideal for those enthusiastic about teaching motivated students aged 8-17 who want to enhance their communication skills.
Responsibilities Include:
• Delivering curriculum on public speaking fundamentals, debate strategies, research techniques, and competitive performance.
• Providing individualized coaching and comprehensive student assessments midway and at the end of camp.
• Judging practice debates, presentations, and camp competitions.
• Supporting the Camp Director to ensure an exceptional experience for students and families.
• Participating in 5-10 hours of pre-camp training and planning per session.
Commitment
• Minimum of 6 weeks across Summer 2026 (June 14 - August 6).
• Each camp session lasts for 2 weeks at one location, with teaching required at different campuses throughout the summer.
• Arrive one day before each session begins.
Who Should Apply?
• Individuals with teaching or coaching experience in Speech & Debate, Forensics, Mock Trial, Model UN, or other competitive speaking activities.
• A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Passion for working with young people and witnessing their growth.
• Understanding that effective teaching requires patience, adaptability, and genuine care.
Compensation
$2,000 per two-week camp session, along with housing provided at residential campus locations and meals included during camp sessions.
Requirements
• Experience coaching competitive public speaking and debate in various formats.
• A minimum of 2 years of classroom experience at a middle or high school level or college level.
• Willingness and ability to supervise and guide students, including walking long distances between campus locations in summer weather conditions.
