Job Overview
This role provides and exciting opportunity for an experienced sleep technician and self-motivated individual with specialist skills particularly in managing patients with sleep apnoea. The Sleep and Ventilation Service currently includes an ENT Consultant, respiratory physician, nurse consultant and specialist nurse. The service has been established for a number of years and has progressively developed and is looking at new ways of meeting the needs of patients the .
This post is suitable for an experienced sleep technician who has a broad knowledge of sleep disorders, particularly sleep apnoea. You should have previous experience of patients using CPAP and some knowledge of non-invasive ventilation. You will provide services mainly to outpatients in specialist clinics face to face, but there is also remote or virtual data review as well as telephone and electronic patient record messaging.
Main duties of the job
This role is part of the multidisciplinary team responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the sleep and ventilation work schedule, as well as providing a direct patient service. The job role involves a patient contact element including reviewing patient requirements for ventilator masks and fitting where required, as well as downloading patient data from their ventilator device and identifying for early interventions. The role also includes managing the waiting list, postal and virtual sleep services, as well as preparing the appointments and paperwork, typing up letters, telephoning patients, organising equipment requests and orders to deliver excellence in care to patients and other members of the public. Additionally, the role involved training of medical and nursing staff in the use of sleep related software, setting up CPAP and fitting CPAP masks.

• Health care science degree or suitable level of equivalent experience
• Sleep and ventilation course
Desirable criteria
• Patient systems management including booking appointment
Experience
Essential criteria
• Suitable experience of dealing with patients
• Able to train medical and nursing staff in the use of Sleep related software as well as setting up CPAP machines and sizing and fitting patient masks
• Able to prioritise workload and manage patient waiting lists including the 18week waiting list
Desirable criteria
• Basic Knowledge of : Clinical Governance, Risk Management, Project Management
