Responsibilities
As part of a small team, your contributions will have a significant impact on shaping our product
Core IDE Development: Work on key aspects of the IDE’s internals to ensure that AI integrations and new features operate seamlessly within the existing platform
Design & Development: Architect and implement AI-driven features such as context-aware refactoring, and automated debugging suggestions
LLM Integration: Build robust integrations with large language model (LLM) APIs (e.g., OpenAI’s GPT series) to enable dynamic, context-sensitive assistance directly within the IDE
User-Centric Features: Collaborate with UX teams to identify developer pain points and implement features that streamline coding, testing, and debugging
Data-Driven Insights: Leverage telemetry and user feedback to continuously refine AI features and ensure they add tangible value to the development process
Performance & Scalability: Ensure that AI enhancements do not compromise the IDE’s performance; optimize for responsiveness and scalability
Research & Experimentation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and NLP; experiment with emerging technologies to keep our platform at the cutting edge
Prototyping: Rapidly prototype new ideas and iterate based on developer feedback and usability studies

About this opportunity:

We’re a pioneering team behind a custom IDE built on Code OSS (VSCode open source), known for its stellar design, performance, and security. As we expand our platform to incorporate advanced AI features that transform the developer experience, we’re seeking a skilled fullstack developer to drive these innovations and bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI and our core IDE functionalities. This role is ideal for a developer who is not only passionate about AI and automation but also deeply committed to enhancing the developer experience through smart, integrated solutions within a robust IDE environment. As part of a small team, your contributions will have a significant impact on shaping our product. This position is hybrid, with three days per week in our downtown Austin office. What you will do:
• Core IDE Development: Work on key aspects of the IDE’s internals to ensure that AI integrations and new features operate seamlessly within the existing platform.
• Design & Development: Architect and implement AI-driven features such as context-aware refactoring, and automated debugging suggestions.
• LLM Integration: Build robust integrations with large language model (LLM) APIs (e.g., OpenAI’s GPT series) to enable dynamic, context-sensitive assistance directly within the IDE.
• User-Centric Features: Collaborate with UX teams to identify developer pain points and implement features that streamline coding, testing, and debugging.

The skills you bring:
• 7+ years of software development experience, with a strong background in full-stack or backend engineering.
• Strong coding skills in JavaScript or Typescript/React
• Familiarity with AI integrations and machine learning APIs (e.g., Open AI, Hugging Face) is a plus, but deep AI/ML expertise is not required.
• Strong experience in one or more languages: Python, C, C++, Go
• Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with IDE architectures, plugin development, or extension frameworks (experience with Code OSS or VS Code is a plus).
• Ability to work on core systems where stability and performance are critical.
• A passion for building developer-facing tools and creating seamless, intuitive user interfaces within a complex software ecosystem.

Bonus:
• Experience gathering and acting on user feedback to drive continuous improvement.
• Familiarity with cloud-native development practices, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of security best practices in AI and developer tools.
• Prior experience working on tools or platforms specifically targeted at improving developer experience a plus.
• Experience in prompt engineering and fine-tuning large language models a bonus.
