Experience in database development, administration, and management for PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server
Ability to assess database for best practices and performance
Ability to build security and backup strategies for database
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or equivalent experience
Solid experience (8+ years) administering SQL server databases
Experience with SQL Server and PostgreSQL
Experience setting up Datadog monitoring and writing custom monitors
Strong knowledge with failover clustering, replication, and other high availability technologies
Knowledge of data warehouse space, custom ETL design and implementation
Knowledge of best practices for database schema migrations
Experience ingesting or moving data from other sources
Experience with databases in the AWS environment
Strong SQL skills - ability to create and maintain stored procedures
Experience using Github to manage source code
2 years’ experience in managing projects effectively, and utilizing resources appropriately to ensure a timely, quality product
Ability to work well in a highly team driven environment
Responsibilities
Understanding of existing data models
Administration and tuning of database, and data models for performance
Ensuring database is performing at optimal levels
Collaborating with engineering teams and clients on ensuring smooth operations of database
Performs deployments in production and non-production environments
Responsible for evaluating patching requests, communicating constraints, risks, impact, issues and timelines for deployment
Collaborates with engineering teams and clients on ensuring optimal operations of database
Streamlines cloning or similar activities to build/refresh non-production environments
Supports and enforces change management SOP, including maintenance across multiple environments
Provides technical leadership and advice for the company’s use of DB and related technologies
Facilitate database back-up, rollbacks, archiving, monitoring, data analysis and troubleshoots data issues
Assists with related task planning, training and technical direction of other Applications Administrators, DBAs or IT software engineers and developers
Assists in maintaining plans for disaster recovery and failover capabilities and testing
Maintains security according to company guidelines and works closely with the IT Security team to develop additional robust solutions
Maintain several SQL Server and Postgres database clusters used for core business operations
Troubleshoot production database issues
Monitor and analyze SQL performance in order to improve database performance using Datadog or other tools
Assist in the review, design and implementation of the database environment
Automate routine tasks
Perform security functions, such as compliance related reporting on database activity and the management of user access
Assist the Planning and Analysis team with gathering the proper data for business reporting
Assist with automation processes and aid in performance analysis and optimization of reporting
After hours and weekend on-call availability for production issues
Create, maintain, and organize technical documentation for all DB information systems
Maintain a Github repository of code used to create databases and tables, and any other automation that has been produced
