Description
Amazon’s global fulfilment network enables any merchant in any of the geography ship items that you order on Amazon, to any place on earth. Amazon Logistics’ (AMZL) delivery stations (DS) receive packages from Fulfilment Centers (FCs) and Sort Centers (SCs) and sort them to route level. Drivers come into the DS and pick up the packages for their route and deliver them to Amazon’s customers. This operation is also called the “Last Mile”. An integral component in the Last Mile ecosystem are Amazon's WW delivery hubs where packages are received, sorted and prepared for on-road delivery. Station Tech team, in Last Mile, is responsible for building scalable tools and technology for delivery hubs that scale across multiple programs and businesses including Amazon Logistics (AMZL), Global Specialty Fulfilment (GSF), to increase associate productivity, site throughput, and operational quality and scalability of our delivery network. Our primary customers are delivery station associates (our actual on-ground rockstars who sort millions of packages a day), station managers (who manage Amazon hubs WW to ensure customer promises are met), COs (central operations team who supervise stations across regions) and on-road delivery agents (drivers who sail through all obstacles to get your packages at your doorstep). The team build tools and process which guide our customers to reduce their cognitive load, eliminate decision points to drive standardization, prioritize work to focus on the highest impact tasks, and take steps for correcting operational defects to reduce the impact of human error and meet our customer SLAs.
The Smart Station team, within the Station Technology organization, envisions to create a delivery station that can run in “lights out” or “dark” mode by relying on automation to be able to process packages end to end with no human intervention. Our penultimate vision is to enable a station that can be run 24/7 by creating a variety of robotics and automation solutions in a modular way to allow a building to retro-fit its processes either partially automated or fully automated, depending on building type, geography and demography. Automation through machine intelligence reduces the level of "human touch", yet increases visibility into delivery actions that allow dynamic planning and adaptation. In a world where anyone can deliver packages for Amazon and delivery points can be in a variety of areas, technology that is utilized needs to be tightly-embedded into the working environment and processes. This yields a scenario in which it is invisible, intuitive to interact with, and ensures processes are as fail-proof as possible. The Last Mile Smart Station team builds solutions that utilize globally-standard IoT devices, Material-Handling-Equipment (MHEs) and robotics to seamlessly weave software and hardware solutions into the logistics and on-road delivery environments. The team continuously innovates for our customers and invests in furthering our architectural foundation to enable business growth, and strategic business initiatives for the next-generation "Last Mile" hubs WW.
We have embarked on a journey to develop our next generation product suite and our roadmap has challenging items for eliminating the human touch on a large scale across WW operations. We are looking for enthusiastic engineers who are looking to make an impact and create products for AMZL's next big dreams. The future begins here!!
