Job description
Specialist Support Worker – Based in Grantham
Permanent Contract / Competitive Pay £14-£15 per hour / Flexibility for additional hours
Positive OT and Case Management are looking to hire a Specialist Support Worker to support a 13-year-old child with ataxic cerebral palsy. The family is looking for someone who is motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic to join their team. Here are the key details of the role:
Responsibilities:
• Morning and After-School Routine: Assist the child with getting up and ready for school, including mealtimes, snacks, bathing, and bedtime routines.
• Therapy Support: Help implement therapy programs, making it fun and engaging for the child.
• Flexible Fun Activities: Support in activities such as trips to the zoo, park, picnics, and seaside outings. The family enjoys spending time with animals (including dogs, a pony, and other creatures), so a love of animals is essential.
• Work with the Family: Support the child’s parent in maintaining the structure and values of the family and supporting other siblings, including a 10-year-old boy with a love for dinosaurs.
• Teamwork: Work with other support workers and assist with covering shifts as needed.
Desired Qualities:
• Fun-loving and Energetic: The child can be charming and easily distracts others, so the applicant must be able to balance fun with ensuring the child gets the necessary support.
• Sensitivity and Adaptability: A genuine sensitivity to the child’s needs, ability to read the room, and adapt to the family’s changing plans.
• Experience: Prior experience with children or young people with additional needs is preferred, though a willingness to learn and a positive, fun personality are just as important.
• Independence: Ability to work independently but also follow the parent’s guidance.
• Reliability and Trustworthiness: The role requires someone who is reliable, trustworthy, and can work under their initiative.
Specific Requirements:
Hours:
• 6 hours every Wednesday (before and after school): 7:15-+:15 am & 3:15-7:15 pm (term time)
• 10 hours every other Sunday: +:00 am - 7:00 pm (term time)
• 10 flexible hours per week during school holidays (13 weeks)
• Extra shifts are available as needed.
Pay and Benefits:
• Excellent pay rate, with the opportunity for additional hours during holidays and through shift coverage.
• A supportive and informal work environment, feeling like part of the family while maintaining professionalism.
This role is ideal for someone who is looking for a rewarding job that doesn’t feel like “work” but is full of fun, learning, and meaningful support for a child with additional needs. If you are someone who enjoys play, can be flexible, and has a genuine interest in supporting children with specific needs, this could be an excellent fit.
