The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining various financial and accounting records, including accounts payable, income activities, general ledger account balancing, and financial document preparation.
Perform daily and monthly banking activities, such as issuing wires, balancing wire registers, initiating stop payments, and processing returns.
Balance income, expenses, premiums, losses, or other accounts on a daily and monthly basis.
Prepare and balance bank reconciliations for all accounts and companies.
Process credits, overdue payments, commissions, fair plan, and abandoned property.
Enter and post transactions to the general ledger, complete relevant general ledger account reconciliations, and maintain accurate records.
Complete regulatory filings assigned by agencies, including NAIC, AM Best, ISO, and others.
Manage the accounts payable process, ensuring proper coding, balances, and timely payments to vendors via ACH, credit card, or check.
Release and reconcile field and CAT drafts to field adjusters.
Prepare and present summarized ad hoc reports to management and team.
Ensure accurate tax reporting by collecting vendor documentation, auditing 10++ reportable income, and assisting with annual 10++ filing.
Maintain proper documentation and provide excellent customer service to divisional partners, vendors, insureds, agents, and other stakeholders.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two years of professional experience.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent college-level coursework.
Qualifications & Skills:
Familiarity with accounting principles, financial information, processes, and chart of accounts.
Understanding of journal entries, regulatory filings, and reports.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn new software programs.
Organized, accurate, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.
Problem-solving, logical thinking, and analytical skills.
Effective communication and listening skills.
Available to work additional hours as business needs dictate.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within set deadlines.
