Your Impact and Contribution

As a Staff Software Engineer – Mainframe, you will drive the design, enhancement, and maintenance of complex mainframe solutions, using your deep expertise in COBOL and Assembly language programming. Your work will directly shape our platform’s evolution and strategic direction, while enabling exceptional business outcomes. In this role, you will lead on strategic, high-impact engineering initiatives within our Retail Technology team, where we build and support core systems that power the home buying journey and retail banking services for millions of customers.

Responsibilities:

Provide technical leadership and strategic guidance across medium to complex engineering initiatives.
Drive the development of strategic programmes of work, including proof of concept developments and efforts.
Utilise a strong understanding of core business and technical strategies to deliver the best business outcomes through technical implementation.
Provide consultancy across projects and delivery teams.
Lead and champion strategic practice development within the team or platform.
Follow best practices and industry standards within the team.
Identify, gain support for, and ensure execution of strategic direction in areas of expertise.
Take responsibility for nominated technical assets related to areas of expertise, including roadmaps and technical direction.
Mentor and upskill other engineering teams across different squads.
Contribute to internal online discussions about software engineering, delivery, and technology (e.g., blog posts and knowledge base articles).
Drive the team to deliver complex troubleshooting activities.
Your Impact and Contribution

Extensive experience in building, managing, and supporting large-scale mainframe systems.
Expert-level knowledge of mainframe programming, including COBOL and Assembly
Advanced proficiency in software design and architecture, DevOps delivery pipelines, and problem solving
Sound understanding of Engineering Security and Encryptions.
Sound competence around site reliability, observability, and risk management practices.
Strong foundation in computer science, algorithms, and software at scale
Passion for mentoring, knowledge-sharing, and fostering technical excellence.
Strong leadership principles, the ability to constructively challenge, navigate and solve complex problems.
