Responsibilities
Works under general direction & requires considerable knowledge of teacher education in order to instruct incarcerated youth in assigned aca-demic or career-tech subject or area of specialization:
Provides services which implement the DYS educational mission; analyzes records to identify student's immediate & long-range needs; utilizes student analysis results & approved courses of study to develop lesson plans for assignments & activities which meet identified student's needs; provides individualized remedial instruction and training to severe behavioral handicapped youth
Conducts on-going assessment of student progress to update records of student needs & corresponding instructional & training program; counsels each student regarding their academic & behavioral progress; documents student progress; forwards student performance reports to appropriate staff for use in planning institutional, transitional & community services for youth; participates in institutional treatment activities
Responsible for implementation of all ODYS, institutional policies & procedures and ACA standards; plans, oversees & participates in other school & institutional activities
Responsible for the care & maintenance of all classroom equipment & learning aides; prepares budgetary proposals & requisitions for new educational resources & maintains necessary inventories
Maintains records & submits reports as required; maintains professional growth through participation in meetings, workshops & formal education programs; serves as instructor on occasion and may serve as a member or leader of problem solving teams or groups; performs other related duties as assigned
Small class sizes (6-8 students)Students are an average of 16-18 years old
Comprehensive paid training will be provided to the selected candidate
No study hall/lunch supervisory responsibilities
Duties for a Teacher include, but are not limited to:
Assess educational needs of youth: develop and implement lesson plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training;
Provide instruction with individual assistance;
Counsel students concerning their performance, behavior and/or personal problems;
Organize and/or monitor extracurricular activities if assigned
