Position purpose:
Manage, supervise, coordinate and plan all activities related to the Writing Centre's services, while ensuring the efficient running of the Centre's activities. Develop, plan and implement strategies to ensure a service offering adapted to students' needs. Act as a consultant on issues relating to good academic mentoring practices.
Work in collaboration with faculties and departments to develop relevant training content adapted to the needs of mentors for the whole University, in order to maintain a community of best practices in relation to mentoring.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Personnel management. Hire and supervise staff under his/her responsibility in accordance with university policies: performance management, resource planning, setting team objectives and establishing their development and training plans. To ensure that team members are held accountable for the performance of their duties, with the aim of achieving and maintaining high standards of service quality at CARTU. Ensure the coordination, distribution and review of their work according to an equitable distribution of tasks and workload.
Staff training. Advise, guide and train staff under his/her responsibility, ensuring that they have the training and tools they need to carry out their responsibilities effectively and efficiently, and that processes and activities are adapted to student needs.
Networking. Coordinate networking activities with faculties and departments to promote and maintain a community of practice related to academic mentoring.
Complementary activities and services. Design and implement a service offering for the student population that meets the needs identified by faculties and departments. These services can take many forms (writing workshops, café de rencontres, procrastination nights, etc.).
Collaboration: works with faculties and departments to develop and coordinate activities and services for undergraduate and graduate students related to academic writing (writing cafés, procrastination activities, etc.).
Resources and support: Develop and maintain a bank of academic writing resources, including style guides, sample assignments, referencing tools and text-checking software. Provide assistance to writing mentors in the use of these resources.
Communications: Plan, design and implement, in collaboration with the Student Affairs Communications Officer, a communications plan to promote CARTU's programming of activities.
What you will bring:
An advanced degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
Three years' experience in a post-secondary school environment.
Three years' experience in human resources management.
Excellent academic writing and verbal communication skills in French and English
Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Two years' experience working in a university student service environment
Experience in mentoring or training
Demonstrated experience and skills in program development related to customer needs assessment.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
