Summary

Position Summary

This position manages Phlebotomy personnel in the delivery of efficient quality patient care and in compliance with hospital and laboratory accreditation requirements.

Essential Duties
• Manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards. Establishes and monitors staff and patient safety and regulatory compliance.
• Ensures and continuously reduces patient wait times for blood collection.
• Develops, maintains, and tracks metrics that measure patient wait times, collections team member, and delivery of accurate, high quality, efficient patient care.
• Creates an environment that ensures phlebotomists are delivering an incredibly positive patient experience with National Jewish Health.
• Continuously improves workflows and procedures, including how and where patient phlebotomy services are provided. Collaborates and partners with clinical staff to improve operations and the patient experience.
• Supervises, maintains and documents the operation of the laboratory to ensure compliance with safety regulations, lab accreditation, federal regulations, and the overall laboratory standards of operation.
• Performs competencies as identified through the departmental competency program. Implements care and services that recognize age-specific needs and issues for the customer served.
• Monitors use of equipment, reagents/supplies, and inventory to maintain uninterrupted service. Manages staff in inventory maintenance procedures.
• Attends continuing education programs sponsored by National Jewish, manufacturer in-services and/or professional society programs.
• Utilizes and improves electronic systems used to deliver phlebotomy services, including an efficient process to allow phlebotomists to focus on the patient care experience.

Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Clinical or healthcare focus preferred
• Work Experience: A minimum of 4 years of Phlebotomy experience is required. 1 year of supervisory experience required.
• Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Current CPR certification required. Current Phlebotomy Certification preferred (documentation of successful completion of a formal program is preferred). Phlebotomy Technician, PBT (ASCP) preferred.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $70,000
