Position Summary:

AutoZone is looking for a Systems Engineer (also known as DBA) who will perform administration and engineering for multiple production databases and be responsible for fast-paced, complex distributed database environments supporting OLTP and OLAP systems.

A strong candidate will rapidly troubleshoot complex technical problems under pressure and implement scalable solutions while managing multiple customer groups. Deep knowledge of Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server, and Postgres Databases concepts and excellent interpersonal communication skills are required.


Key Responsibilities:

Manage database solution design to support portfolio/project/architectural cycles
Develop and maintain an operations model to centralize and optimize practices
Establish, manage and optimize a DBA tools roadmap
Integrate into the lifecycle of portfolio delivery as it relates to executing a project and operationalizing it for ongoing support
Manage and maintain operational efficiencies within the DBA team to deliver on key metrics that enable corporate initiatives and service delivery
Ensure proper synergies to deliver on time-sensitive initiatives under the Project Management Methodology in place (on time, within the quality specs, and within budget)
Create, develop, and review the physical model created from the logical model, ensuring that the detailed physical design of data structures and databases complies with standards, guidelines, and procedures.
Provide support for application staff and business areas regarding database implementations, including a customized in-house database and a third-party application package.
Establish an automated monitor mechanism for space and database availability conditions. Establish best practices for database and application availability through third-party technologies and the exploitation of various database features.
Provide application support for staff and business users by answering questions and resolving the RDBMS technology problems.
Conduct cause analysis to identify and resolve problems impacting application and database availability and service levels.
Contact vendor support when necessary to facilitate application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiency.
Perform proactive analysis of database infrastructure capacity and performance
Evaluate new technologies to improve service reliability, performance, and efficiency
Ensure proper implementation of large-scale RDBMS environments
Analyze and propose alternative approaches for data development solutions
Ensure maximum uptime and performance of large-scale RDBMS environments and related applications
Monitor and refine processes, procedures, and systems to optimize effectiveness and integrity and recommends and implement improvements
Ensure proper documentation for database and data model design
Provide after-hours and weekend support as required for on-call responsibilities, database refreshes, testing, technology upgrades, and other off-hour assignments.
Assist in identifying, developing, and providing technology training to the organization's application developers (formal and informal).
Participate in staff training opportunities (formal and informal) about rules, procedures, and standards for the access and maintenance of shared data resources.
Participate as assigned to intra and inter-departmental project initiatives.
Participate in RDBMS Performance and tuning and RDBMS Utilities—Capacity Planning for various RDBMS and tuning for multiple RDBMS activities.
Participate as assigned in the testing and recommending tools and utilities to improve managing and supporting the database environments.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field required
Minimum of 5 years of Database Administration experience with administering and supporting multiple RDBMS databases for performance-critical, highly available systems on the UNIX/Linux platform
Experience in various RDBMS Architecture, Configuration, Administration, and Directory Services
Minimum of 2 years of data modeling experience with conducting performance tuning, backup/recovery, and scalability/capacity planning, in addition to PL/SQL, and scripting.
Detailed understanding & experience of Linux operating systems and shell scripting
Experience in Enterprise Replication concepts and tools (Golden Gate, Active Data Guard)
Require excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Experience with backup/restore functionality using RMAN, Data Domain, and Recovery Manager
Experience creating automation tools for managing relational databases (auditing, account management, backup/restore, discovery, schema deployment).
Experience managing servers in large-scale, geographically diverse environments.
Excellent performance tuning skills (AWR, tracing, explaining plans, SQL, and Instance tuning, Profiler)\
Experience in a consultancy role, assisting and mentoring junior DBA staff.
This position requires operational support during the following 2 shifts (on rotation).

Note: IST timings will change based on the CST winter schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, and Postgres Databases
ITIL training and certification
