Contract Type: Continuing, Full-Time

Assignment Area(s): Resource Teacher / Generalist – Community Leadership 10 -12

Salary Range: $5+,711 to $10+,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: September 1, 2025

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

Extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas: students with special needs; assessment/testing theory and practice (Level B); strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum.
Knowledge of and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services.
Demonstrated understanding of and successful experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities as defined by the Ministry of Education.
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
Collaboration: Embracing inquiry-based, team-focused teaching
Skilled in using Connect–Process–Transform–Reflect instructional approach
Experience intervening and supporting struggling learners, especially in literacy and numeracy
Ability to adapt instruction for individual student differences using IEPs and informal adaptations
Demonstrated use of technology to engage students and enhance instruction
Effective classroom and behavior management; PBiS experience is an asset
High energy and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to inspire confidence and self-worth in students
Experience conducting and interpreting Level B assessments (e.g., WIAT, PPVT, Key Math, TOWL)
Demonstrated experience working with students with a range of special needs (e.g., autism, moderate to severe intellectual or physical disabilities)
Strong background in writing, implementing, and evaluating Competency-Based CBIEPs
Proven ability to collaborate with classroom teachers and school-based teams
Willingness to co-teach using push-in/pull-out models of support
Ability to manage and organize support services, including scheduling and supervising Educational Assistants
Experience coordinating with district/community/provincial resources (e.g., POPARD, SET-BC, MCFD)
Knowledge of Ministry special education policies, accountability, and audit processes
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Commitment to inclusive practices, UDL, experiential learning, and alternate demonstrations of learning
Ability to lead planning for transition support, case management, and direct intervention
Willingness to engage in professional learning and innovation
Commitment to Truth & Reconciliation and using First Peoples Principles of Learning
