Purpose of your Position - Non Union

Classification Summary - Union
The Water Distribution Operator I performs physical maintenance, repair and construction functions related to the City’s water supply and distribution system.

Duties - Union
Assists in the maintenance and repair of fire hydrants, gate and butterfly valves, air valves, pressure reducing valve stations and reservoir cleaning.
Assists in the water main flushing program; valve exercising; operates fire hydrants and valves; gathers water samples and takes chlorine readings and turbidity measurements.
Locates and performs minor repairs, adjustments, and exercising curb stops.
Ensures maintenance and repair work is accurately recorded.
Operates various power and hand tools including but not limited to, jackhammer, tamping machines, threading machines, blow torches, air compressors and vehicles.
Performs manual labour; enters manholes and works in confined spaces where required.
Performs work safely and supports the City’s health and safety program.

Physical Demands
Working outdoors in all weather, confined space entries, shoveling, jackhammering, twisting, reaching, turning valves, hydrants and curb stops, pulling hoses, some night work, working on team or alone, standing, walking, climbing, sitting/driving, computer work.
