Water Treatment Plant Operator


The Town of Hay River is accepting applications for the position of Water Treatment Plant Operator. Reporting to the Supervisor of Public Works, the Water Treatment Plant Operator operates and maintains the Water Treatment Plant, water distribution system, sanitary wastewater collection system and waste treatment lagoon system. The Water Treatment Plant operators provide for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and treatment processes, and for the reliable production and supply of high quality water for all residential, commercial and industiral cutomers in accordance with Federal, Territorial & Municipal legislation, policies and standards.

This position works with various departments in the GNWT and the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board to ensure conformity.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operates and maintains the Class 2 water treatment plant, water distribution system, wastewater collection system and lagoon system;
Ensures Town of Hay River Water Treatment Plant operations meet or exceed regulatory and legally required guidelines for water quality and wastewater treatment;
Keeps current all daily, weekly, monthly and annual checklists and testing records and all records of inspections and testing for the Water Treatment and Wastewater Systems; and
Inspects, services and repairs components & infrastructure of the water treatment plant, water distribution system and wastewater collection systems


Desired Qualifications:
This position requires a Class 2 Water Treatment Certificate or Class 1 Water Treatment Certificate and experience working in a Class 2 plant for a minimum of two years. Have excellent mechanical knowledge & experience with pipe repairs, distribution systems and physical plant systems/assets.

Compensation:

The Town of Hay River offers a comprehensive salary and benefits package including $500 per month Northern Living Allowance. Salary range is from Group 7, Step 1: $34.66 through Step 7: $45.75
