Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. May require weekends as needed.

Rate of Pay:
$35.47 (Level I) - $3+.08 (Level III) p/h Depending on certification as per Schedule “A” of the current CUPE Local 608 Collective Agreement.

This is a full-time position beginning on the hire date. Reporting to the Chief Water/Wastewater Operator, the Level I – Level III Water/Wastewater Operator helps operate, maintain, repair, and adjust processes within the Civic Works department. An ideal candidate would have a good combination of experience and training within the utilities systems or be willing to obtain training.

General statement of duties

Perform skilled tasks and duties within the water and wastewater systems.
Work involves the installation, operation, and maintenance of water and wastewater systems within the Town of Princeton.
The ability to start and maintain a high standard of service within the Civic Works department.
Ability to work on an extensive list of tasks including but not limited to system checks, sampling, water/wastewater main installation and repairs, water/wastewater service installation and repairs, facility maintenance, fire hydrant maintenance, water main flushing, or other duties as required.


Major Duties and responsibilities

Maintain the operation of the water system as required.
Maintain the operation of the wastewater system as required.
Monitor SCADA systems for the water distribution system and wastewater collection system and check reservoir levels, well levels, monitors consumption, turbidity, chlorine residuals (Free and Total), UVT, flow rates, system pressure, force main flows and pressures, wet well levels and records daily station logs.
Maintain fire hydrants within the distribution system as well as carries out scheduled unidirectional flushing and dead-end water main flushing on an annual basis.
Respond/investigate to customer complaints regarding water quality and quantity concerns.
Respond to service requests.
Respond to BC One Call requests.
Operate and maintain mechanical equipment within the water and wastewater systems including but not limited to: motors, pumps, drives, piping, control valves, as required.
Repair and service both minor and major water and wastewater system components such as motors, pumps, piping, instrumentation equipment, gauges, screens, chlorination systems, and flow meters; removes pumps and motors and preforms repairs and maintenance.
Operate systems pursuant to Interior Health Authority and Ministry of Environment operating permits and guidelines.


Qualifications, skills & experience

Grade 12 or equivalent.
BC driver’s license class 5 with air endorsement.
MTS training/qualification in fire hydrant maintenance.
EOCP Water Distribution level I - III certification is required.
EOCP Water Treatment would be an asset.
Experience operating Vactor truck for sewer flushing and hydro-excavation.
Experience on utility excavations.
Willing to obtain equipment training pertaining to excavation for the repair and installation of water & sewer mains and services.
Chlorine handler’s certification is required.
Minimum of 5 years’ operating water and wastewater systems in municipal works.
Necessary knowledge to complete a variety of water/wastewater operational tasks within the Town of Princeton’s water/wastewater system.
Ability to exercise independent judgement and action.
Ability to execute oral and written instruction.
Ability to communicate effectively with other Town staff, contractors, as well as the public.
