Your Opportunity:


Under the general direction of the Director, Student Academic Services, the Admissions and International Student Advisor provides expertise in the area of domestic and international admissions policies and international credential assessment, to SGS Academic Services staff, senior graduate admissions/university staff and graduate admissions leaders and committees in graduate units.


In this role you will research and recommend graduate admission policies and minimum standards with respect to international educational systems and English proficiency requirements. You will communicate with and advise prospective applicants, students, and graduate units on admissions guidelines and procedural issues, acting as a resource person and resolving admission problems affecting graduate students. This includes advising faculty, graduate administrators, prospective and current international students on exchange programs, international study abroad arrangements, joint education placements, and other opportunities.


You will provide frontline support for GradApp, the graduate application system (Slate), serving as a contact for graduate administrators and applicants navigating the application process. This includes delivering training, troubleshooting record issues, maintaining knowledge base documentation, and escalating technical issues as needed.You will coordinate and respond to admission inquiries, assess and make recommendations on non-standard admissions cases, facilitate international visiting graduate student applications, and present training workshops to graduate administrators on application and admissions policies and procedures.


You will provide advice to the SGS leadership team and other SGS staff on academic guidelines and procedural matters related to admissions. Additional responsibilities include updating forms, procedural manuals, and other training and information material, and communicating with a wide variety of graduate units and students on policy and procedural issues. You will have responsibility for coordinating one or more specialized portfolios and you will work closely with the other advisors on the Student Academic Services teams to provide mutual support, ensuring the seamless operation of graduate student services and the successful resolution of issues.


Essential Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
Minimum four (4) years of experience in Higher Education or a related field
Experienced in use of student information systems including GradApp (Slate)
Strong analytical skills with experience in data collection and analysis.
In-depth knowledge of academic and admissions regulations and their application.
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in advising and supporting students in an academic setting.
Demonstrated ability to lead workshops and seminars.
Compassionate approach to providing support and making referrals.
Excellent investigative and problem-solving ability, sound judgment and decision-making skills; demonstrated ability to work in a team setting.
Excellent time management, prioritization, multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail
Expert use of MS Office tools, including Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and relevant communications and presentation systems
Ability to work with minimal supervision and to act on one’s own initiative
Ability to deal with a high volume of work with competing priorities and deadlines

Assets


Experience in the administration of graduate education
Experience with the University of Toronto and familiarity with university programs, policies, and procedures
Expert knowledge of student information systems such as ROSI, other customer relationship management (CRM) systems
