Reporting to the Mechanic, the Apprentice Mechanic will be responsible for assisting in maintaining and repairing all golf course maintenance equipment. The right candidate will work closely with the Mechanic to develop their mechanical skills and gain experience in a Mechanic's Shop environment. Our goal is for you to learn as much as you can from our Mechanic, while helping to quite literally keep everything running smoothly around Redwoods! This is the ideal role for someone going through courses for a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician program.
There is some seasonality in the golf industry, so certain times of the year are busier than others. At times you may have up to 40 hours of work per week, particularly during the main golf season. But we will work alongside the successful candidate to accommodate a school schedule.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Learn about and assist in maintaining, servicing and repairing different types of golf course equipment
Learn about and follow a preventative maintenance program for all equipment
Maintain and clean tools and equipment after use
Maintain a clean work environment
Ensure all health and safety standards are met
Work closely with the Mechanic to develop knowledge, experience and abilities such as:
Use a multimeter to troubleshoot minor faults
Perform minor repairs under supervision
Complete basic arc welding and torch cutting
Grind reels and bedknives under supervision
Other duties as assigned

Basic understanding of mechanical systems or an interest and eagerness to learn

Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to prioritize tasks
Problem-solving skills
Ability to troubleshoot in a fast-paced environment
Quick thinking and 'can-do' attitude
Ability to work in all weather conditions
Physically able to carry out the functions of the position
Knowledge of golf and/or the ability to play the game is an asset
Qualifications

Current enrollment in a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician program is required
Valid Basic First Aid with CPR-C, and AED Certification, or equivalent, will be required to be maintained during employment
Valid BC driver's license is required
Willingness to complete a Police Information Check is required
Knowledge of overall golf course turf maintenance practices is an asset
