About the role:
The Strategic Communications and Engagement Team delivers customer focused communications and engagement outcomes, including whole-of-agency media management and corporate communications, strategic engagement and case management, digital development and customer experience and industry partnerships.
The Senior Communications Officer is responsible for targeted media communications activities to support the Department's Enterprise Plan and business priorities. You will ensure implementation of the Department of State Development (DSD) media policy and provide an initial point of contact and liaison with ministerial offices on all media-related matters on behalf of the Department, and the co-ordination of workflow within the media team.
You will deliver a range of communication outcomes for various departmental programs and projects, including media management and coordination, social media and key messages and talking points for ministerial and executive staff.
Key Competencies:
To apply and succeed in the role, you will have:
Well-developed knowledge of best practice approaches to media management and ability to co-ordinate media-related outcomes on behalf of DSD.
Demonstrated experience in developing trusted relationships and partnership with key Departmental executives and ministerial officers and advising and providing best practice approaches to media management and communications outcomes.
Significant level of knowledge of media and communications and related guidelines and protocols, with the ability to develop, establish and communicate processes and policies internally to streamline and manage activity.
Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities, with demonstrated capacity to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Demonstrated skills and expertise in co-ordinating whole-of-agency media management and communications related complexities and the resulting workflow within a small team environment to ensure timely and quality delivery of media and communications outcomes.
Remuneration:
Competitive salary ($+8,478 min - $104,165 max pa) plus superannuation

Qualifications:
Essential: Nil
Desirable: Appropriate tertiary qualification in Journalism, Communications or a related field.
Special Conditions:
The role will be offered full-time (1.0 FTE), initial 12-month term contract.
Satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check (NPC) required prior to employment.
